Chowringhee — Restaurant in England

Ordered as a first time customer nearly £40 worth of food. Despite a very loud background noise on the phone (i kinda get it, friday night, you're busy) Had a lovely chat on the phone with the lady who took my order, she recommended me some dishes.

When it arrived the driver, who was clearly in a rush, dropped a greasy bag at my feet that had clearly fallen over inside the vehicle.

There was items missing from the order and when asked where they were, he said i hadn't ordered them. when asked if i could get them, i was told very rude and abruptly "no", he apparently had 3 other deliveries to attend to.

He knocked very loudly again about 20 seconds later, and then i got 2 phone calls, (presumably from the manager), begging me to take the food and the missing items. no offer of a discount, some kind of sweetener, but most importantly, no apology. nothing.

There was also a 10% discount cash order that wasn't put on the order that never materialised. i know i ordered the coke, because i asked for the order total at the end of the phone call, and then added it up after the fact.

Absolutely APPALLING customer service, for which this made me feel uncomfortable accepting the food.

Absolutely will not be ordering from there again, and will be telling friends & family to avoid...

I had heard really good things anout this restaurant from people with reliable palates.

Food: We went on a Sunday evening and everything was fine until I took a forkful of my Chicken Xacuti. Instrad of the expected garlic, coconut flavour underpinned by a good range of spices, it tasted entirely of mustard: what you might expect if ordering Lapin Moutarde. The sauces in both curries was congealed from spending too long in the microwave.

Rice, naan were fine and the side dishes were cooked well enough but tasted as if the cook had forgotten to put any spices in.

Atmosphere: Whilst we were eating, the owner was on the telephone talking in great detail about a problem with blocked toilets somewhere in the building.

I would usually send poorly-made food back but it had been a tiring weekend and given the owner's disregard by talking about human waste related health issues all through our meal, I didn't. We just paid and left. My companion didn't finish her food; the takeout went into the bin the following day.

Very disappointing. I find it extremely hard to believe whoever cooked our meal had won at the Curry...

We have ordered from Chowringhee 4 times after switching from another local takeaway. We were initially very impressed, quick service and great flavours. Unfortunately, last night we ordered a prawn dish as part of our order and I immediately tasted that the prawns were off. My partner tried some and agreed. We could smell that the prawns were off / old. I called Chowringhee and they were apologetic, however unable to offer a refund because we ordered through Just Eat.

They have advised that next time we order they will deduct the cost of the prawns main from our order. I don’t think that this is an adequate response given the very real risk of poisoning. It’s also left me questioning how fresh the ingredients are given that orders are prepared so quickly. I would expect the entire order to be refunded as it really put us off the rest of our meal and the sauce had mixed with other items on the plate.

Maybe this was just a one off and we may try again in future given the previous good meals but it has definitely put us off ordering seafood...
