The Long Man of Wilmington in Patcham has been our go-to local for years, and it never disappoints. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel welcome, whether you’re popping in for a quick pint or settling down for a leisurely meal. The beer selection is always on point, with a great choice of well-kept ales and lagers that make it hard to stop at just one.
What really makes this pub stand out, though, is the food. They serve up absolutely delicious Thai dishes, cooked fresh in the kitchen and full of flavour. The menu offers a great variety, from fragrant curries to perfectly cooked stir-fries, all bursting with authentic taste. You can tell the kitchen staff take pride in what they do — the dishes are consistently well-prepared, beautifully presented, and arrive promptly, even on busy nights.
Service here is always friendly and efficient. The kitchen team deserve a special mention for their care and attention, making sure every plate that leaves the pass is spot on. Pairing a perfectly pulled pint with a steaming bowl of Thai curry has become one of our favourite ways to spend an evening. The Long Man truly is a gem of a local — great beer, amazing food, and a warm, welcoming...

After 4 months of visiting the Long Man we found out there is shrimp paste in their curries. Every time we ordered we had the bar staff add into the comments: “Vegan - No fish sauce or animal products." Apparently the kitchen staff never bothered to look at the ingredients they put in our food. For those with shellfish allergies or who are vegetarian / vegan this is unacceptable.
We e-mailed management and instead of apologizing or explaining how this happened for so long they suggested we come back. Considering we can’t trust their kitchen it’s unlikely we’ll ever return.
I would expect any kitchen to know or at least check what is in their food. As regulars finding out how little effort they put in was a big disappointment. (1-2 visits per week) There are too many fantastic restaurants in Brighton to take our £’s to the Long Man. (Ladies Mile Pub and Sri India nearby are...
Read moreThis visit was to give the pub a second chance as we'd had a poor experience on our first visit. The food was really tasty and hot - roast beef was tender and a good mix of veg. The service has improved as there is now table service. The person who took our order was lovely and let us know there would be a wait of about 30 minutes for our food which was fine. We don't mind waiting as long as we are told. The only downside was we had booked for 3 and were told when we turned up that we'd booked for 2 - he was quite insistent but luckily I had a confirmation email - I felt like we might have had a problem otherwise as they were very busy. After being offered a table by the door in a cold draught or a table in a dark little room by the pool table we finally got a decent table. The day was saved by the food and the person who...
