Received a friendly welcome following a recommendation for Sunday lunch. We sat in the bar area waiting for a table to be free, happy with the surroundings. However, lunch was served… we had three different meats between us - not one was edible. Pork was 90% fat, beef was too tuff to cut & the chunks of lamb consisted of fatty sinew. One potato per plate & cold undercooked vegetables on the side. We persevered with eating our lunch as other tables around us complained. When we tried to tell the head chef/manager we weren’t happy with the quality of food, he was happy to argue the food was good quality & we were only complaining as others around us had earlier. Not the most professional customer service! A meal was deducted from our bill As good will gesture. Such a shame really. We won’t return again due to the management’s attitude.

A lovely cosy pub. Food on the main menu was slightly too fancy for us but we opted for a lovely sandwich with chips, home made coleslaw and salad for £6 each - really good value we felt! Just off the main area of the town, a little hidden out of the way if not familiar with the area (we were just visiting!), we parked nearby and walked just up the road. Cheap drinks too which are always welcomed by us Southerners! Nice place. Efficient service for colder food but were warned there would be a longer wait for a hot dinner.

Nice pub. Nice range of real ale. Nice building. Nice interior. Nice bar area. Friendly staff. Great stairs. Big on medium priced pub food and large seating area at back concentrating on food clientele. Basic and not that sweet smelling toilets.

Visited for Sunday lunch recently and it was lovely, so tasty. The choice of veg and sides was extensive, roast potatoes, new potatoes, stuffing, sausages, carrots, peas, swede mash, creamy leeks, cabbage, ratatouille, and probably others that I have forgotten. The veg was not all dried up like many places. There were 3 choices of meat, beef, turkey and pork and also a vegetarian option. Gravy and a choice of sauces were brought to our table when we were called to fill our plates. We also had desserts, there was a choice of about eight, obviously homemade. My friend had the baileys cheesecake which was creamy and soft and I had the coach mess. It was very nice but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you like chewy meringue. They were both beautifully presented. The bill was £40 with a soft drink each and was a great weekend treat. The lovely ladies in there were so friendly and helpful, they really make the place. Top...

We've been customers here, on and off, for many years. On tuesday a friend and his wife insisted on taking my wife and I to lunch. We recommended here on the basis of our previous good experience but sadly today was not to be such an occasion. Apart from the young man who waited table the service was surly, the turkey crumbled on carving and the vegetables languished in luke warm water. Gluten intolerance featured but it was clear the carver had no idea as to the requisites of this malaise as he dished up stuffing and sausage. It's regrettable that we have to complain but it may be that the absence of other diners could be...
