I've been in here when you can't swing the proverbial cat - the food is standard pub fair and the service good - but tonight was nicely quiet. This allowed me to both have a decent butcher's at the whiskey water jugs and ceramic tobacciana strapped (literally - they use hostage grade plastic cable ties) to the ceiling beams as well as acquaint myself with some of the locals (well a recently relocated Brummie at any rate). The beer in here is well kept (I went down the bar starting with the two Tintagel ales - both as good as at the tap down the road where it's brewed) and it feels like the genuine dressed down independent ale House it is as opposed to a gimmicky tourist trap. I'm guessing it wears two coats - it's got to cater for the tourists to survive but it wants to be the cool kid on block too - I think it does this quite well wearing its long history with pride leaning into some of its old traditions (live music around the piano) to keep the crowds coming. There aren't 20 drinking establishments in Boscastle anymore but it's the best of what's left - drop in and try 4 pints of Caliburn before walking back up the...

Heard a very good live band playing ("Vinyl Frontier" great name!) on Saturday night and as musicians ourselves we decided to venture in for a listen, bought some drinks for my wife and I and listened to the band. They were great, people were up dancing - I would have rated the atmosphere 10/10... until....When our drinks were finished the manager came and took our glasses away, which at first I thought was nice, until he then said I needed to order more. I told him I was driving and had already drunk enough, to which he told me, mainly through use of rude gestures, that if I did not buy another round I had to leave the property! So I did.

The funny thing is that if it was not for that rude encounter we would most likely have returned for a proper meal and drinks and maybe even left a nice review. As musicians we completely understand how it works - we often gig for no money at all, and pubs are struggling. We get it. But it makes absolutely no business sense to be so rude to those who would otherwise have returned. So sadly, my...

Very disappointed. According to their website, Wednesday night is steak night. Booked a table the week before our holiday started. We were really looking forward to our ribeye steak with all the trimmings for just £16. Having ordered our drinks and started our tab we sat at our table only to find no mention of steak night on the menu. Asked a member of staff who told us that wouldn't start for maybe another 6 weeks. Not at all impressed. Ribeye was on the regular menu but considerably more than the £16 quoted on the website. As the chances of getting a table elsewhere in the village were slim we decided we would just have to have something different. We both ordered lasagne, least said about that the better. Didn't stay for more drinks or pudding. Paid up and left. Mentioned the issue to staff member who couldn't have cared less. Our aim was to eat at all establishments this holiday and spread our money around. Whilst all others so far have given a great service and great food, all with a smile, the cobweb was sadly lacking...

Beer good however, too many mistakes with food. Thai curry was meant to be mild - it wasn't. Sausages and mash was bland. Dessert menu was held up for us but given to another table to hold (covid precautions!). While we were deciding, another table received the wrong meal. Another was given their sauce and when it did come was cold. It took over 10 minutes to rectify this. We were served one dessert but our other dessert was served to another table. It was only because it was slightly different, this was noticed. We were offered a replacement of as it had sat in their table but we declined this option. The pecan pie was dry and had been over heated as the caramel was congealed. It was served with a tiny portion of clotted cream. The crumble was stodgy. The waitresses were friendly and tried to be helpful but they were frequently on their phones and didn't check if the food was ok. It took a long time for plates to be cleared. They probabltneed better training.

Leaving a good review as I can't have you scoring lower than the local Toby jug. Excellent food menu with delicious specials and freshly cooked food. Bangers and mash uses fresh potatoes! Not any packet stuff. Best place to eat in boscastle for sure. Lovely friendly bar staff and lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Good selection of local ales and ciders as well as the classics. Edit, back after a year: Back a year later and the friendly demeanor seems to have faded, although they could have just been having a bad day. Went back for the Sausage and mash as I remembered it so fondly. Unfortunately the home made onion gravy has been replaced with fairly bland off the shelf gravy with a handful of sliced Raw onions, dry mash and frozen peas. Disappointed. Hopefully it's not an example of how things are and just a bad day.

Bit of a mixed bag... Walking into this place was like taking a trip back in time. A very quirky pub that was right up my street. Ordered a beer from a friendly barmaid and went to sit outside for a while. The beer was warm and not great (I had the same ale at another pub). There was no head and seemed flat. Wife's cider was also awful. The decor is old, and it still has cobwebs hanging in places (not sure if this is intentional). From an old black and white photo we stumbled across, we could see that nothing much had changed. The addition of a pool table was a shame for such a historic building and was positioned as an obstruction to the toilets. I'd have expected table skittles for entertainment. The toilets weren't the best and pretty much bog standard. Loved the decor and staff, hated the beer.
