Thoroughly disappointed with our stay, many reasoning to this which I don't believe I'll be able to fit into this review.|Firstly the room, when we arrived we were charmed by the area And quirky features of the building, unfortunately this charm came to an end very abruptly, the bed felt like concrete and was very uncomfortable, the slightest bit of movement caused the bed to make horrendous squeaking. The room as a whole was quite small, and as per previous reviews I have seen, is in fact cluttered with furniture. |During our stay unfortunately the restaurant was closed, this information was provided on the conformation email, however, is stated after October but does not say what year or to when it would reopen daily, we were then recommended 2 places for an evening meal, which was the most horrific meal we've ever had.|The shower is awful and doesnt hold a temperature, the water stream is pathetic and the showerhead kept falling off when the water was running so was unable to have an evening shower, this is also to repeat previous reviews which have been stating this exact problem for 3 years! |As per previous reviews, the breakfast is indefinitely dated and needs a whole new menu, the ordering of breakfast the previous night is also a strange thing which I have never encountered in any hotel I have stayed in, aswell as the fact that my partner had picked 2 things on the menu which was later stayed to be unavailable!|When we booked we stated it was our anniversary which was only mentioned upon checkout, also when booking it was stated there were only 2 rooms available a double or a triple, now we don't have the need for a triple room so went for the double, when we went up to our room after our dinner, we noticed a vacant room (this was not the triple room) with the door open which only from the doorway it looked much more spacious and comfortable.|In the room we were provided with tea and coffee and glasses for tap water which was really cloudy and the first glass filled had black pieces in the water, when thinking of requesting bottled water, we quickly realised there was nobody at the reception. ||I will say that the gent who handed us our keys was genuinely lovely and helpful. The stream outside our window was calming and gorgeous. ||I think all n all the whole place needs a refurb and to look at the reviews stating issues as they seem to be getting ignored. Having a bar area open or even dinner within a timeslot for residents only, could improve...
Read moreOnly allowing tables of 6, that's fine and understandable with the current climate, our party of 9 didn't need to sit together as we were 2 families so I asked for a table of 5 for my family. To be advised by the waitress that she wouldn't seat us as we knew each other. We were looking to have a large meal to set us up for the long drive home but clearly the Riverside doesn't need the custom. Instead we took our business to two separate tables at the Toby Jug who have the loveliest wait staff.
Just to edit following the response from The Riverside. Refusing to accept two tables who are happy to be separated makes zero sense to anyone I have spoken to. Your standard covid excuse im afraid does not cut it as you are happy to take tables of complete strangers but not two who have been in a bubble and take our safety extremely seriously. Your frankly rude comment claiming I had an 'outburst' just goes to show me that we had a lucky escape, if your refusal to accept our tables who were happy to separate had made any sense whatsoever then you wouldn't have had to deal with a unhappy customer and if your staff don't know how to deal with unhappy customers, then honestly they are in the wrong job, customer facing is clearly not for them. I absolutely was not loud or inappropriate or belittling, but can now see your way to avoid a poor review is now just to insult people. Anyone reading my reviews can see I am honest and complimentary where good service has been given. It certainly was not at your...
Read moreThis is one of the best Service hotels we have ever stayed in!!! It was my husband, Oliver and I's 2 year wedding anniversary/ re-up. (We get re-married every 2 years as a reassessment of vows to one another) So us, and 3 members of the original wedding party decided to cycle from Bristol, UK to Boscastle, UK where after we performed a small ceremony on the cliffs overlooking the sea.
However when we first got to the hotel the management said there was a problem with my booking, and they'd try to fix it. After 20 mins of fiddling around and calling the booking agency, they then asked oddly where we would be dining tonight. Oliver and I said we'd like to look around town. Then the management suggested if we stayed and ate at their restaurant they'd upgrade our room for no charge, but only if we dined with them. It was kinda blackmail, but I was fine with it.
Turns out the whole stunt was planned by the hotel and my friends to make sure we ate there since they had created a special wedding dinner surprise for us! It was amazing! I am so impressed at the management's ability to improvise a situation making us totally surprised! Literally one of my most memorable experiences, especially after 75 miles worth of cycling! :) oh and THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!! So glad we stayed for dinner and so glad we picked The Riverside! would totally visit again!
Ok I am a year late in writing this review... (so sorry!) but glad I could finally...
