We came here for a meal Saturday 11th dec 21. Super friendly staff . Fabulous food . Very lovely atmosphere felt like home . But unfortunately we had another visit Tuesday 1st march on a week night for my sisters birthday and sadly didn't get the same service. The one and only member of staff that seemed to be there didn't didn't even acknowledge we'd even walked in let alone ask if wed got a table. ( fair enough he was possibly short staffed, a nice hello be with you in a moment wouldn't of gone a miss.) I walked over to say hi we've got a table under the name of lisa. Only to be looked at no reply . Hugh. Did the waiter speak any English I wandered . after what seemed like forever stood at the door, the waiter walked across to a table ( still no eye contact ) and pulled two tables apart . because he'd never asked I'd not been given the chance to say was for four people. (Birthday girl was stuck in traffic ) . When I said sorry there is 4 of us he proceeded to put tables back together ( still no i contact) . and walked off, after 10mins sat waiting he brought 2 menus
My sister ( birthday girl ) then showed up and we sat looking at 2 menus between all four of us . 20mins later still no drinks or even asked if we wanted any . ( again if hed just said I'm sorry I'm extremely busy il be with you a.s.a.p we would of thought differently) I walked across to the bar asking for more menus and asked if maybe we should order from the bar . He said il be across. Looking stressed.
We all felt a little bit annoyed by his attitude an very stale manor ( did he think he was working in a mortuary? It rather Seemed like it . ) it sort of spoilt the night , my sister only booked there because of the lovely staff from December on my birthday so disappointed to say the least .
I will add food was fabulous so compliments to the chef .the only reason...
Read moreWe visited Cognac as a lot of people said it was good. We went to celebrate my other half’s birthday. We were offered three table options. After choosing the first option, (wasn’t comfortable) we moved. The table had dirty wine glasses and water glasses a quarter full. When the next waiter came I mentioned the glasses, he said it was because we moved? Shouldn’t they have been cleared anyway? We had napkins with holes in them. Not a good first impression! We ordered a bottle of wine and our food. We were given the wine and then waited for our starters..and waited and waited. My other half wanted to pay for the wine and leave. I persuaded her to wait a little longer. Our starters came. My daughter wanted olives and bread and a basket of bread for the table. The olives came with the basket of bread. The starters were fine, I ordered lamb for the main, my daughter ordered the vegetarian option and my other half ordered the fish of the day which was halibut. My lamb was a dried piece of meat with no vegetables. My other half’s fish came with skin on and full of bones and the side of vegetables were dry and hard. My daughter said hers was fine. We couldn’t wait to leave. What a total disappointment! Then to top it all we asked for the bill to be told the machine wasn’t working and had to be paid in cash? When the bill came the wine wasn’t the wine we ordered and had two pound extra put on. My other half wanted to complain but I told her let’s just go, I’ve had enough. ...
Read moreGenuinely pissed us off with this experience. The couple next to us, who were seated 5 minutes after us, received their starters AND their mains before our orders were even taken.
After waiting 50 minutes for our starters, we were greeted with painfully mediocre crab cakes, which held a very large resemblance to Asda’s frozen fish cakes.
For mains, my partner ordered the halibut, and they generously included lots of bones and even a piece of plastic, which was kind of them. The fish was okay but to risk a choking hazard on bones every other mouthful soiled the experience. I ordered the chicken breast wrapped in bacon, with chicken liver pate. It was OK. Apart from the chicken liver pate, it had the texture of wet sand and tasted like pollution.
I will say though, the dauphinoise (fancy word for potatoes and sauce) was very good in comparison to the rest of the meal.
It doesn’t end there, though, when it came to desserts, my partner and I ordered the brownie, but they failed to advise on the peanuts included within the brownie, which we barely noticed. My partner has a severe peanut allergy so she would have been done and dusted had she not noticed. When we pointed this out, she was given a complimentary drink, but not another dessert. So the drink wasn’t really complimentary, because she paid for it via lack of dessert.
I won’t...
