Corbridge Tandoori — Restaurant in England

Another fantastic meal from Jewel and his staff. We've been customers of the Corbridge Tandoori for more years than I care to remember and always love their food. Whilst we normally have a take away, this time it was a pre-season get together for all our drivers. 10 of us descended on Jewel, Sulayman and the guys and what a tremendous time we had. From poppadoms and pickles all round, through various starters, main courses, naans and rice, every dish was fantastic. Matched with cold Cobra beer, all the drivers were incredibly impressed with the quality of the food. Whist a couple of us were regulars, most live further away and so were tasting Jewel's work for the first time. Every one of them messaged me the next day to express how good they thought the food had been and to put in their preference to repeat the experience on the next night out. My personal highlight was the Sulayman Salon made with chicken. Named after Jewel's son Sulayman, (a terrific young man of whom his dad is justifiably proud), the dish was awesome. This is my first ever review and felt obliged to right it as would like others to know what they are likely to receive when choosing to eat here. We ordered a chicken kurma, chicken tikka vindaloo with plain rice, two naan breads and a portion of chips. Which came to a total of £37.15. Both dishes were plain with a thin and watery sauce. No substance, texture or much taste unfortunately. It has to be the worst curry we have ever had. We were there at allocated pick up time and just staying around the corner with family. It was cold and bland when we got home. Chips soggy, yellow in colour with a horrible grease taste. It was a BIG disappointment and wish we had just got a microwave curry as would have been better. If you like thin watery sauces with a few pieces of chicken then this is for you. However the vindaloo had x4 quarter pieces of potato to probably balance out the chicken. Not only have I eaten many times at Corbridge Tandoori, I have also carried out minor repairs in the restaurant and kitchen. The kitchen is small, but very clean, with stainless steel surfaces. I have always had a good meal there. I last ate there on Sunday evening, 30th June 2024. I tried a different curry to my normal hot choice, and it was a delight. Jewel chats to all customers, but actually came and sat with me to chat as it wasn't too busy. He always makes me laugh and is a genial host to all.
