We had seen Elements in the past, while on the coast road. Looking for a last minute getaway, we decided to check it out! Firstly location..... RIGHT on the coast, literally across the road, a stone's throw away. The centre of Bude is 1.5 miles away, so 3 mins in a car or 30 mins walk. Surrounded by fields on 3 sides and the road/coast on the 4th, we found it to be very peaceful. The property itself looks like it was once a big house that has been converted. I think there are 12 rooms, plus a separate 'apartment'. Our room had a Superking (2 singles that connect together but you couldn't tell) a small wall mounted tv, good hanging space for clothes, a unit with kettle and tea/coffee facilities. The headboard allowed space for glasses etc and there was a double socket with USB on both sides of the bed which was great. The bathroom had a shower that was 'ok' and a good size basin and loo. The only thing missing was a shelf to put bathroom bits on. There were a couple of filled in rawlplugs indicating there used to be such a shelf. You could hear showers being run in adjacent rooms but it didn't disturb us. Equally the door to the landing was just outside our door and as it squeaked quite a bit, we thought we might be bothered by that, but not the case! The staff we encountered were all lovely and very pleasant, a particular mention to the Manager who was always around ! The bar and restaurant were very smart and the bar had a good selection of drinks with bar prices as to be expected. We ate outside (we had our dog with us) in the evening and the views were lovely, as was the food. It is an italian restaurant but also offers steak, chicken and fish dishes on top of the typical pizza and pasta choices. Breakfast was good too. A continental selection plus a small choice of hot options to order. The sausage and bacon were lovely as was the scrambled eggs, mushroom and toast we enjoyed with it. All in all the hotel was perfect for our needs and we really enjoyed our short break away. Would definitely stay again!
UPDATE - August 2020
Having a free weekend presented the perfect chance to sample Elements again.
Since our last visit, the hotel have completely renovated the bar/restaurant area, adding a smart 'residents only' seating area which is also dog friendly, so no more outside eating...unless you want to!
We were on the top floor this time, in a smaller room. The view was lovely though (see pic) and the room big enough for its purpose. There were a few negatives for us, as follows... The room had also been redecorated at some point, and for some reason, presumably cost saving, the leather headboard and chair had been painted a new colour! Though they looked mostly fine, in practice both felt a little 'sticky' to the touch, be it a head or your arms. The sink is in the room due to the size of the bathroom, and the bathroom lacked a shelf to put anything on. The shower head fixing was not great and you had to rely on the water pressure alone to keep the head from sagging. This did not always work in practice. (We did report this on check out ) The tv is fitted to the wrong wall as you can't quite get the angle you would hope for, not that we watched much TV with the fab location and views! Lastly, another design flaw in my opinion. The bedside lights are built into the shelves, so they shine up through the glass on dimmer switches. As lights the desired effect is achieved, although different colour bulbs spoil it slightly! The issue is that the shelves get quite warm with the heat of the bulb so if you have your phone or a glass of water etc on them, over time they get heated too! We didnt spend much time in the room though. The staff are all friendly, the food was good and we had another enjoyable stay. Im editing to 4* from 5* based on the room issues alone With all that in mind we will still be back...
Read moreBude on a Sunday evening even during the Summer has limited options for dining. However, Bude is a small town so this is an observation and not a complaint. Within these limited options was Elements restaurant and we were fortunate enough to visit them for our final meal in Bude. Ours was a last minute reservation and I had to call the restaurant to confirm. We were offered an 8:30 seating which we happily accepted. The excellent customer experience began from my first call! A short while after the call ended, Elements called back to ask if we wanted to visit them a little earlier and so we would not have to wait or eat late which was a consideration we were not expecting. On arrival, we received a genuine and warm welcome as well as provided a table, menus etc. Our orders were taken by some of the most attentive staff I have ever had the pleasure of being served by. Likewise our food was with us very quickly. The most important part of the evening, the food, was simply outstanding! The care given to each dish was evident and the outcome was absolutely delicious. Our main course done, we moved on to some equally awesome desserts, which were heavenly. By this time, we realised that it was approaching the restaurant's closing time. However and once again not what we expected, our hosts were in no hurry for us to leave. They provided a level of service that truly made our evening perfect. As such, with all aspects considered, we would strongly recommend Elements, their food and their staff for a dining experience that will be exceptional....
Read moreI recently managed to book a last minute table at Elements while camping with the family at a campsite near by. As it was a last minute booking the restaurant was fully booked so we could only have one of the high tables in the bar area which was near the main door. This might have upset some people but it didnt bother us as my children liked sitting on the high stools and massive tables being able to see out the window towards the great sea view. The other tables in the restaurant were lower too so it also meant we also got a great view of all of the different dishes on offer which helped us decide what to order. To start I had califlower soup and we shared a garlic pizza bread. My girlfriend is Vegitarian so she had a lovely Courgette Pasta dish which was far too large for her which I got to finish. It was delicious. My daughters had a creamy maccaroni cheese and pizza from the childs menu and I had an amazing Pizza with crayfish, prawns and anchovies called Lumi. To finish we had a malteser chocolate cake (which was enourmous) and kids icecreams. This restaurant was brilliant. The food was great, the atmosphere was lovely and I only wished I lived nearer. On a cold, wet summer’s evening Elements really cheered us all up. Our whole meal for 4 with starters, mains, deserts and drink including wine was under £70 which was increadibly good value for the quality of the food. I would love to return at Christmas time with a large group of friends as this is the kind of place you never want to leave. Well done to all of the...
