This is an absolutely excellent & phenomenal museum/heritage centre situated in the Cornish Town of Bude. The admission into this place is free, which is a great thing about this place and it details the history of the town of Bude in an informative way and interesting way with easy to understand displays and and well laid out exhibitions to ensure that you have a clear idea of Bude's history. The exhibitions that are covered are how Bude into a holiday destination, how it developed as a fishing trading port and how it used as a training Base during WWII and also the RNLI's work in Bude and all of this is very enthralling and extremely interesting to read about. There are some interesting artefacts such as models of ships, furniture and rocks to see. There is also displays on Bude's geological history and rocks on display that accompany this story. There is a cafe on site selling a great variety of refreshments at reasonable prices and there is a shop selling a variety of decent souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is an absolutely fascinating and insightful place to visit and makes for a very interesting and intriguing day out. Definitely well worth a visit...
Read moreGreat place to go and learn about both the castle itself and the local area and some of the residents.
Family visit - lifeboat day- August BH - 4 & 6 yr old boys.
What we liked It was free - unbelievable - no admission charge Had toilets and a cafe Some really interesting history which included Lifeboat Surfing Ww2 dday training (US Rangers) Founder of the castle and his inventions GCHQ radar site Airbase Fossils Development of the town from early trading.
This was all really nicely presented with pictures, models, artefacts, interactive displays and some VERY good information boards.
Things which you might need to know - (which didn’t bother us) No car park (we walked across from big crescent car park beside tourist info Doesn’t look that obvious - as castles go - it’s small The layout is a bit topsy turvey - as it’s small - not an obvious circular route.
Overall Well worth a visit - families singles couples kids.
Main car parks tariffs on last photo - long stay the same prices as...
Read moreA great place to visit while you are in Bude. You can discover so much about its history with some great displays and artefacts. I especially enjoyed the information about the training involved for the D-Day pointe du Hoc mission . Bude turned out to be very similar to the Normandy beaches and the cliffs were ideal for the training needed to scale the dangerous pointe du Hoc! I was also surprised to discover that Bude not Newquay was the first seaside resort in the UK to introduce surfing ! When you are not enjoying the museum you have some rooms filled with local art. There's a lovely conservatory in which you can sit to enjoy coffees and cakes with a great view of the beach and sand dunes. It has different levels to enter and has lifts for the disabled. Free admission. Toilets. Bookshop with gifts. A...
