Bayleaf India in Somerset offers an exceptional dining experience for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality Indian vegetarian food in a welcoming setting. From the moment we walked in, the service stood out—attentive, polite, and genuinely warm. The staff made us feel comfortable right away, happy to explain dishes and accommodate our preferences without hesitation.
The menu had a wide variety of vegetarian options, each one thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was rich in flavour, well-balanced in spice, and made with clear attention to detail. The paneer dishes were a particular highlight—soft, fresh, and perfectly cooked in aromatic gravies. The dals were comforting and hearty, and the breads were hot and fresh from the tandoor, with just the right amount of crisp and softness.
The ambiance added to the overall experience. The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated, with a calm, relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to enjoy the meal. Despite being busy, the staff remained attentive and the food arrived in good time.
What set Bayleaf India apart was the consistency—every element, from food to service, felt intentional and cared for. It’s clear the team takes pride in delivering an experience that goes beyond just the meal. We left feeling satisfied and appreciated, which is rare to say these days.
This is not just a place to eat—it’s a place to enjoy good hospitality and authentic Indian food done right. For anyone looking for quality vegetarian food in Somerset, Bayleaf India is a must-visit. We’ll definitely...
Read moreI don’t like to write bad reviews about places but I really couldn’t avoid this as there were multiple issues. The initial impression was fine and they took our order and brought us poppadoms quickly, there were only two other tables when we got there. When we ordered I asked multiple times if some chosen dishes were gluten and dairy free as one of us was allergic, they said yes it’s totally fine. This person was then in pain for days due to us being lied to by the owner. The food also took 1 hour 15 to come out with tables around us being served before us and lots of take away orders being sent out. It looked like they valued their takeaways more than their sit in customers. Then when it came to paying, I went up to pay for the table which we were splitting later so I asked to take a picture of the bill. The owner did not seem happy about this, the bill was written in shorthand so I asked to take pictures of the menu too, again which he did not like. When we got back and went over the bill they over charged us! A lot of the prices he wrote down didn’t correspond to anything on the menu, basically writing random prices on everything.
Overall, the food was nice but average, waiters were niceish if a bit confused. The 1.15 hour wait was a joke, the complete negligence toward allergies was dangerous and the made up, overcharged bill was the cherry on top. Would not...
Read moreAs a family of 8 travelling to Cornwall for the first time, I booked a table several weeks in advance for 5:30pm. We were called shortly before we arrived and were told to come later at 6pm. No problem.
When we arrived the customer service was out of this world AWFUL. They treated us like we had walked in last minute. They said "We were expecting 9 but 8 will do."
The lady who took our food order was cold and harsh. She was extremely dismissive when she realised one person wouldn't be ordering for the whole party.
At this time there was only one other family in the restaurant and they even said "She doesn't want to serve you, does she!?"
After we recieved our drinks she came back to our table with the same negative attitude. At this point, we decided we wouldn't give them any more business. We cancelled our food order, paid for our drinks and left.
It's worth mentioning that another family were waiting to be seated who also left after witnessing the treatment we received.
We walked up the road and got a takeaway from Bude Spice who provided excellent customer service.
Do not let this put you off visiting Cornwall. The locals are absolutely lovely and we'll be back again (not...
