We paid a visit to Enoteca by L’Uva on a Wednesday afternoon in early June. My husband and I had been given a gift voucher at Christmas for this restaurant and decided to put it to good use celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had made a booking with the restaurant directly for 1:30pm but upon arrival we probably didn’t need to as the venue was empty. That didn’t put us off as after reading previous reviews I can see the food was highly recommended. The venue itself was clean and presentable and felt rather cosy. The friendly waitress allowed us to take a seat wherever we liked and we did so before looking over the menu. There was a wide variety of dishes to choose from with special set menus as well. You were quite spoiled for choice! Since the place wasn’t busy at the time it meant we were served quite quickly and opted for 3 courses. I really enjoyed the deep fried brie, the main course of linguine carbonara was tasty and I opted to add chicken to the dish for an extra cost. Finally, the dessert was very nice a salted caramel ice cream cheesecake. Throughout our time the waitress was very nice and chatty and another couple of people came in so we weren’t quite alone! Not sure if it’s that quiet all the time through the week maybe we got lucky as it meant we were served quicky! However, I can imagine it being very busy during evenings and weekends. Overall, the menu was decently priced and I felt we got good value for money with the food. I would recommend this restaurant, the waitress was lovely, and the atmosphere was good too… although I don’t think I could cope listening to the Italian soundtrack on a loop every day! 😊 This place was recommended to us and I do agree it’s a great little place. The food was great and service spot on! Give it a try if your ever in York!

This place was lovely. A very warm welcome from the front of house and the waiting staff. Lovely people. Food was excellent. We ordered bread and olives and were given a lovely surprise of a really warm flatbread, and plenty of it too. The olives were very enjoyable as was the ramekin of olive oil and balsamic. Main courses were the Sea Bass oven baked with a lobster sauce and vegetables. A big plate of food but absolutely delicious. We also had the Linguini Carbonara with chicken. At first I thought it was a touch bland, but the flavour of the sauce really grew as I ate a very hearty plateful. Superb. Dessert was just for one of us, and I had the Chocolate Tartufo. It has always been a favourite, and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely beautiful. The smells coming out of the kitchen were amazing, and we saw pizzas arrive in the table next to us. They looked delicious and we're huge! Definitely for next time! Last nod of appreciation is to the wine list, which was dull.of Italian gems and well thought out. I had a beautiful glass of negroamaro. My only comment, the smallest size glass was 175ml. I'd have preferred a 125ml. Just a small comment. A real 10/10 place.

We went last night, we had high hopes looking at the review and it just looked lovely and romantic and cosy DOWNSTAIRS! We got sat 2 floors up in a little room that looked like a guest bedroom. It had no atmosphere and we felt very much out of the way (No pictures of this room on the website or FB/Instagram).They forgot the water for our table. My husbands risotto, wasn't quite right felt like it had no parmasan and they possibly added cream. Some chap came in to our dining room leaving which ever dining area he was sat in to take a private phone call. My food was OK but didn't have a wow factor. Presentation wasn't great I guess because they have to get from the kitchen and up 2 flights of stairs. I think they need to explain to customers that they maybe sat in a different dining area up some stairs, especially as they may get guests who have mobility issues and can't get up the stairs.

From the outside, this looks like a stunning little restaurant. The service was very good, and the atmosphere was very good. What let it down was the food, Friday night never the best time to eat so really should know better, the bread and olive starter lovely home made bread. But then the mains came I had sirloin steak with Diane sauce and chips and my wife had the sea bass branzino (without the prawns), the steak came on a wooden chopping board, so no pouring the sauce over my meal and it was warped so spent a lot of time trying to keep it on the table but it was a poor cut with so much gristle that made up a third of the meat, but chef cannot be held responsible for the meat itself. The sauce was OK, but far too many onions , so this was what it tasted of and not brandy or french mustard. My wife's fish was overcooked, making it dry and the sauce was in no way creamy just a tomato style sauce which was heavy with far too much chillies covering the fish head to tail making it impossible to actually taste the fish, the asparagus (all 3 of them were hard and undercooked). This was really disappointing as the staff and ambience of the restaurant were great, but having ourselves been in the industry for over 25 years, we felt a long and detailed review was needed as this is only going to improve the quality of what is on offer. I must also comment on the cocktails, which at £12:95 each were truly rubbish, having made 100s of these in my own restaurant. Putting that much ice in is just wrong! Would return, but maybe we should stick to pasta, pizzas and beer, which most guests seem to...
