One of the staff is rude and racist. Cannot believe she being Thai is racist to Asian. Three of us went there for dinner after seeing the good reviews as we were looking at somewhere close to hotel. We first greeted by a very polite and accommodating staff (lady with hair tied up all back). After we finished our mains, we looked up at the dessert menu but then told the sticky rice mango isn’t available so we didn’t order anything extra. The next moment this shorted hair staff came and asked if we needed to order anything else and said otherwise they have customers coming in. While we were still drinking up our water I was so disappointed and unhappy about her approach to us hinting that we should leave. We have not spent no more than 45 mins with our meal. There are a lot of other tables of customers came before us and had finished their mains and some were only drinking water or chatting with friends like us, but she only asked us. We noticed the rest are all westerners or non Asian. Why she only chose to speak and hint to us to leave makes us feel being treated unfairly. We got the bill and paid immediately with all this disappointment. Before we left I decided to talk to the polite staff that served us earlier and told her the incident hopefully she will revert to management to stop this happening to other people. While i was talking to this lady i saw that rude staff at the cashier showing a “i don’t care” look and moving her shoulders. I said to her immediately that it’s very rude and said to the lady staff about it. This rude staff then said she’s hot. We are totally disappointed about our dining experience, all because of her. We believe she’s racist and would not be doing the same to certain people. We left very...
Read moreThis is a must-do for our next visit to York. Lovely lovely lovely. We were treated as though our meal was the only thing going on in the restaurant that drizzly night.
I was traveling from the US with 2 teen boys who were exhausted and surly after line outages made our train journey to York from KC London 6 1/2 hours long, lugging a week's bags, in warm weather and crowded transport, and only chips and pepsi for lunch.
One boy an opinionated omnivore; the other just beginning to eat food that touches other food on his plate. What could go wrong?
The dining room is small and cozily elegant and cunningly set up to give each party elbow space. The tapa-sized portions were perfect for our trio. Duck spring rolls, chicken cooked with a variety of techniques and glorious sauces, wings well-worth nibbling, and our questions answered with patience and gentle suggestions. The proprietor and server were cheerful while we ordered incrementally - the boys said that they had been treated like adults - and the surliness evaporated into celebration.
Not huge wine choices, but the whites are perfect. Next visit we'll order more broadly from the well-curated menu. Two weeks later, I am homesick for that dining room.
Five stars, and as my grandmother would say: a star in the crown of this...
Read moreWe were the only customers on a Saturday early evening and waited 10-15mins to order food and drink while 2-3 staff members chatted. The food tasted ok, very simple, but be aware the portions are tapas sized and very small so it would be a very expensive option to have enough food for a main meal. I had beef in coconut milk sauce, it was 3 pieces of meat in a dessert spoonful amount of sauce. My partner had red curry with pork belly, again just a few small pieces of meat, and maybe 2 dessert spoonfuls of coconut milk sauce. Tiny. After eating my meal in about 6 forkfuls in 3-4mins, I complained to the waiter about the sizes and he explained that it is tapas sized portions. I said this should be explained when ordering, to which he just walked away. £8.50 for the beef + £3.50 rice = £12 for a 1/3 of a portion of meal. To get enough food for one main course would be around £30 a person in a side street Thai street food venue. Very overpriced. A service charge was also automatically added to the bill. Our 2 starter sized snacks, and 2 bottles of beer cost us over £35. We left hungry and annoyed, feeling ripped off. We will not be returning. There are much much better Thai restaurants, like Rosa in Coney Street where the food and value are...
