Fair Maid — Restaurant in England

First visit here and will not be returning. Fair Maid was highly recommend to us by a friend so we decided to take our mums here for dinner on Sunday. We were shown to our table and just left, we were not told that we had to order from the bar so we had to go and ask. We went to the bar to order and stood at a till for a good few minutes before we were told to go to the other end of the bar. My mum had asked for a Ribeye steak cooked medium, when it arrived it certainly did not look like a Ribeye steak and was over cooked and tough. She went and politely complained (which is not like her as she is very quiet and shy so it must have been bad for her to go up and speak to someone about it) the person she spoke to we assumed was the manager and he was none to friendly and said it certainly was a Ribeye but don’t worry i’ll get it change it, but he was not apologetic nor did he say this in a kind or friendly way. We had nearly finished our meals when the replacement meal came out and admittedly it was freshly cooked and did seem to be Ribeye steak but this time seemed more over cooked (She had asked for medium) and still tough. At no time did anyone come over and ask how our meal was or how the replacement meal was. You seem to give your order get your meal and be left, apart from when your plates are collected. A very nice young lady and a lovely very young man we’re they only friendly staff we spoke to so well done you guys. Finally two of our party went to the ladies toilets and to put it bluntly they were absolutely disgusting. One was blocked with paper, one had not been flushed after being used!!! One of them flushed the toilets and the toilet filled up to the brim and the other toilet started to back up. I’m story but these can not have be checked all day and that is absolutely disgusting for a pub. I really do not like writing bad reviews but this was a complete waste of our time and money and as I say we will not be making a return visit. I’ve read other reviews and the responses given are all the same, but obviously nothing has or will be done!!! Such a shame as we were really looking forward to eating here and finding a place we could visit on a regular basis as we are local...

Sunday morning Sunday league football (under 14’s) .. big celebrations as our amazing team of very well behaved and polite boys not only won promotion but also won the top spot in their league! 🙌🏻

To celebrate we thought it would nice to treat the boys and their families to lunch and a few drinks at our “local” pub. The Fair Made in Cottingham.

Oh how wrong we were … we were greeted with

“No we don’t want football teams in here and we won’t be serving you food, your team have been banned from here once before so we are not allowing you to be here” (for the record we have never been in this pub before !) the pub and beer garden were empty.

This resulted in our boys not only being disappointed but it also took the shine off the day and their result.

We then decided to go to Hallgate Tavern instead, where we were greeted with cheers and congratulations from all the bar staff. 🙌🏻 They provided food for the boys and more to the point “hospitality”.

We then enjoyed an afternoon of celebrations where a lot of money was spent !

In the current climate of pubs struggling and the hospitality industry crying out for business I just find it mindblowing that an establishment would turn away a huge chunk of money and also future business.

Alot of these families are local to Cottingham and often go to Fair Maid but will no longer be taking their business there thanks to today.

We could have had a party at home but we thought we would support local business. Thanks to Hallgate Tavern who have restored our faith 🙌🏻

They need to change their name...

Manager female short hair bad attitude. She should not be doing that job more suited to looking after inmates in Wold prison. Went 6pm Sat 10th May. Same Manager served me at the bar, no friendly smile, gruff and rude, I was ordering for group of 6 she had no patience. This is the 3rd time since Christmas always the same horrible woman. I did not eat hardly anything off the mixed grill. It was over cooked all of it, even the chips and multi coloured bullet peas. What ever process the chef is using to speed up food service needs looking at. He is probably keeping items of mixed grill in hot holding containers under the lights of the pass, and when the other meals on your order are ready the chef will quickly brand the meats under the grill. Even the steak was rubbish looked like Ant and Dec had given me it in the jungle (Cows Anus). No table check and after waiting an hour for plates to be cleared, I asked a waitress to clear and could I speak to the Manager. When she arrived she instantly said " So guys what do you want out of this, A refund, free drinks or a replacement meal". That's great hospitality!!!!! I declined any of it and told her I just wanted her to know it was not good. The rest of my party were to polite to say they had not enjoyed there meals. After explaining what I thought was wrong she just denied it all. Well I am now in the process of writing to Green King in more detail, as suspect She Will have to answer to written complaints as part of her KPI's in her next business review or...
