My wife and I have been here a couple of times before. Tonight we popped for tea, but it was a couple of years since we'd been here last. The place looked the same as it did before. I remember having to ring in advance to see if they had the pie on. And tonight was the same no pie ready just cooking it now was the reply. The other thing was the fish cakes, they had been taken off the menu. Which my wife was looking forward to. However things change, and I'm not going to dwell on that. We arrived at about 5.20pm. So it was limbo time, and we didn't know if it was lunch or dinner menu. Anyway it was the dinner menu. Which was very gastro food. I didn't mind, because I fancied the Haddock chips and mushy peas which was on both menus. But on the dinner menu it was £3 dearer. My wife chose really well presented fish dish. The name of which alludes me. It was Haddock, muscles, prawns, scollop style potatoes and onions. It was cooked in a rich creamy sauce, with a hint of garlic. And served with a rustic style piece of garlic bread. Served in a large hot pan. My Haddock was extremely Crispy, and make a pleasing cracking sound when breaking into it. The chips were thrice fried. Crispy outside and fluffy in. The minted must peas and the tartar sauce complimented it very well. There was a bit of a wait for our food. But when it is cooked fresh to order, one doesn't mind the wait. Overall a...

The worst food I’ve eaten in a very long time and poor service as well. It was very disappointing and cooked poorly. There were six of us we all had a different main and only one of us enjoyed the food. It was my first visit to the place and my friends who had been before commented about how down hill it has gone. My partner wanted to order a Caesar salad off the salads section on the menu the waitress told him sorry we don’t stock salad. He had the carb linguine, a few of us tried it and it was inedible. We mentioned this to the waitress who did nothing about it and still charged us for it. I had the halibut that was over cooked and dry, the hasselback potatoes were undercooked and samphire was raw and although it can be eaten raw it would most definitely of complimented the food better if cooked in butter for a minute or two. My friend had the beef stroganoff that looked nothing like a stroganoff and more like a boiled beef broth the meat was tough as old boots he asked for it to be served with chips and not rice and the waitresses reaction I feel was rude. Another friend a very bland fish pie. I would not...

Proper safe distancing in place, myself and my friend enjoy this place for drinks reasonably frequently because of this On Thursday decided to eat there. We had in the past under other ownership and really enjoyed I can honestly say we wasn’t disappointed this time either Waitresses and landlord very welcoming and attentive and the food was simply delicious. We had chilli king prawns, crispy sea bass starters, tandoori monkfish and beef stroganoff mains. The landlord recommended a wonderful red Shiraz to go with the meal and at £10 per bottle it wasn’t just wonderful to drink it was very easy on the pocket Will definitely...

We held an event here in the function room they have to hire and it was brilliant. Organised it all via message on Facebook and they were great at getting back to me. On the day, the room is lovely, it has some indoor and some outdoor spaces. There is a tv that we put some pictures on which was a nice touch. And the food was excellent, really good quality buffet food. They kept filling it up as well, there was more than plenty food wise, nobody went hungry.

The Bluebell in Cottingham is an excellent traditional village pub. It has a deservedly excellent reputation for its meals. There is a very good choice of traditional homemade food. The game pie is deservedly very popular. There is an excellent choice of beers lager and cider, including three cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. It's a nice cosy pub highly recommended.
