I can’t exactly comment on the food because we were told to leave before we even got a menu. I booked (keyword: booked!) a table for my boyfriends birthday today (1/11/24) at 7:45 (I wanted to book it for 6 but was told 7:45 was the only time they had so I settled for it). When I told them my name the girl on the phone almost sounded like she was laughing, not sure why. Anyways, we drove up from Taunton as my boyfriend lives in Watchet and when we got to the restaurant we were greeted by full tables apart from one. We went up to the bar and said we had booked a table, however I did not see my name on the sheet of paper they had the bookings on, which was my first concern. The table we were given had to be wiped down (can’t fault that, from someone who used to work in hospitality when you’re busy it’s hard to keep track!), and then we were told the server needed to get cutlery, so I went to the bathroom. When I came back my boyfriend was sat with no menu. We sat for about 10 minutes until another server came over and said that we would have to leave and come back later as they had “double booked us” (in his words “it was difficult”) The only other time they had was 8:30, about half an hour- 45 minutes later. We left and went to Vladi’s which was absolutely amazing, we were given amazing service and free cheesecake for my boyfriends birthday! Anyways, I would steer clear of here, especially if you are booking for a busy time, as you will more likely be turned away from your table without...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Faustos Minehead last night. Ordered a bottle of their Champagne. That was opened away from the table and then dumped unceremoniously on our table for us to pour ourselves. Ordered starters and mains, starters took an hour to arrive and even then my wife had to go and get a spoon from the bar for her soup. Half an hour later one of the girl waiters fetched one of of our mains and placed it in front of a guest on another table. He was just about to start eating when the waiter rushed back apologised to him and then placed it in front of my wife, she of course refused the meal. We cancelled our order and asked for the bill. Even then nobody came to the table, we had to go to the bar to pay. There appeared to be no management structure in place. Nobody came to ask why we were leaving or offer an apology. I have never written a restaurant review before in my life positive or negative, but this was one of the worst eating experiences I have ever had. Terrible customer service, no interest from staff. The only thing that was done quickly was clearing the tables for the next customer. Spent £54 on a bottle of champagne, and over sweet onion soup. Went across to the road to Wetherspoons where the staff were falling over themselves to help us choose...
Read moreI couldn't really fault the restaurant, the food was excellent, garlic mushrooms to start, Sea Bass main with a side of garlic bread (which I couldn't finish). Busy, warm (a bit too warm), cosy, a little loud but accommodating and pleasant.
I can't rate them higher, neither can I mark them down for the entitled young twits who came in, seated themselves and proceeded to have inappropriate, loud, conversations about bodily functions and their, shall we say 'unusual' bedroom activities. Drunk? Maybe, had it not been for them I'd have stayed for dessert and a coffee but I couldn't tolerate it any longer. I'm far from prudish but listening to that was beyond what I'd consider comfortable. There's a time and place for that, chaps and that wasn't it.
All in all I would recommend Fausto's and would return again, hopefully sans...
