This is what £11 worth of salad looks like. Tragic.
Final edit: You're correct, this is not the cafe for me, or anyone else who thinks £21 for two tiny side salads that could have been replicated in an supermarket for 20% of the price. Nothing more to say, I won't be deleting the review though, it's entirely valid.
The above was my original review. The owner then went on to edit their response and remove the part about it "not meeting their usual standards". Clearly this is their usual standard, and they don't plan to change it.
Edit to reflect their poor & condescending response. I have a second photo of the other salad, I'll upload this as a second review. The presentation was not the issue. It was an £11 seafood salad that contained perhaps two spoons of tuna and 4(we counted) prawns. Morrisons(or any other supermarket) salad bar would have done a better job of this for 20% of the price. I expect more when ordering from a cafe.
The other salad was a chicken caeser. The croutons were just cut up wholemeal bread(soft), and again, the portion size was not more than what you would expect as a side salad. Cheers for the offer of replacing it "as it doesn't meet the usual standards", but perhaps the usual standards aren't...
Read moreTerrible meal wish we hadn’t bothered. We went in for some lunch. Ordered two cups of tea to start no spoon to take out the tea bag and nothing to put the tea bag on, two spoon were then plonked on the table. Then my friend ordered a bacon and cheese toastie. To be told NO BACON they had run out. He decided he didn’t want anything else . I ordered a cheese ham and tomato toastie and a portion of chips between us. When the toastie came it was thin bread with hardly any filling my friend had half of my toastie, no ham in it hardly any cheese and 1/2 a cherry tomato on mine , nothing on his half. The chips were £2 and the smallest portion of chips I have seen a baby could eat more, not even a potato. No serviette no knife and fork, they has put a small bit of lettuce on the plate with a small cherry tomato. Had to eat with my fingers. There is a Waitrose up the road an Aldi and a Morrison’s close by, so could have got some bacon. Terrible service I complained to the owner who didn’t seem at all bothered I asked why he didn’t send out for bacon he declined to answer. He took a bit of money off my bill. They were lucky I paid anything. Never again...
Read moreOn Such a lovely afternoon thought I would have a have a gourmet sandwich. Ordered "Hot Roast Beef” (supposedly gourmet sandwich) on White Bread with horseradish and steak chips and no salad. My friend ordered a Cheesburger with salad , steak chips and a coffee also. The sandwich came on pre white sliced doughy bread with no or little horseradish, the beef was overcooked and inedible, it had been sliced some time previously and was dry and tasteless. Never have a seen such an unappetising sandwich with handprints where it had been held to cut in half. On leaving half the sandwich for the waitress to see open on the plate and feeding the other half to my dog my bill was reduced by £2.00 from £19.70 on total to £17.90. Having had a cheeseburger and chips with salad and regular coffee. This "Cafe 31" needs to review the word gourmet and its prices and response to a complaint about poor quality food and sandwich which it says are freshly prepared. Save your money and try another establishment...
