We ate here on Father's Day as I'd been eyeing it up for a while and, sadly, we probably won't be back in a hurry. When my wife booked as a surprise visit for myself, she made the (not unreasonable) assumption that there would be different options available for children who aren't keen on roast dinner, especially as other reviews talked of variety of choice.
We were a little disappointed, then, when only the roast dinners were available, and the only option for the children was a smaller roast. Literally, the entire menu consisted of roast beef, roast pork, roast chicken, roast lamb, salmon - all with identical sides - and a salad option. It's worth noting that these were also marked up by about £1 an item from the Sunday Roast menu.
The waitress went to ask the chef if he were able to cook a plain burger for each of our boys, to be told that wasn't possible. To add insult to injury, after our food arrived there was about a 45 minute gap before the next customers even arrived and ordered, during which time the chef was stood by the bar chatting.
As to the food itself, that too was sadly uninspired. The meat itself was very tasty, but the potatoes were over large and under-done, the parsnips un-cored and therefore solid, and the cauliflower cheese (for which we paid extra) watery.
A real disappointment, given how much we'd been looking forward to it from the...
Read moreBest burger and chips. I don't write many reviews, but to give them their dues, this place knows how to make a proper burger. I grabbed lunch in a rush and ordered the cheapest burger and chips as I always do. They served it up within 10 minutes. Now, I don't believe in eating a burger with a knife and fork, but I could not fit the burger in my mouth. It was huge. Then there was the flavour; I hope it was good quality beef because the meat was absolutely delicious. Dare I say the best burger I've ever had. To top it off, the ketchup they served with the chips was probably the best ketchup I've ever had. I think it's called Stokes or something, but it's thicker than tomato puree and delicious. The only criticism I have was the coleslaw. I was exited when I heard coleslaw was one of the sides, but it had mint or something in that ruined the flavour. However, the food and brilliant customer service will definitely see me revisit and drag friends and family along for a meal. I'd also like to...
Read moreFound this place using Google Maps when looking for a dog friendly place to eat.
It was quite busy when we got there (6.30pm on a Saturday) but we managed to find a table. If I was to return, I would definitely book a table in advance.
Menu choice was good. No well known brand named lager, cider etc. Its all craft beers, ciders, ales. Soft drinks available too. Huge portions of food! I had the mac n cheese and couldn't finish it due to the size of it.
Dog friendly but not a huge amount of room between tables. Fine for a smaller dogs but my old english sheepdog found it a bit difficult to move around due to her size. Staff were great. They brought over a bowl of water and some doggy treats for her which she loved.
Low lighting in there and it was very warm which I found uncomfortable, especially when eating hot food too. Some windows open would have made a difference.
Overall its a great find and would definitely...
