Popped in after the highly anticipated new opening of this lovely new, contemporary cafe in Preston, Torbay. It was day 3 of opening, 10am on Wednesday and the place was buzzing and alive with diners getting coffee, smoothies and an array of toast options. The breakfast menu keeps things simple - surprisingly there aren't egg options - you can order a cereal/muesli bowl topped with a range of fruits, sourdough toast with a variety of spreads (GF / non dairy options too), and avocado on toast with additional halloumi and bacon options for an extra cost.
The sourdough comes from nearby Totnes, as does the coffee - from the well known roastery The Curator - so there is a focus on using local suppliers which is fab. That said, not entirely sure what their intentions are in terms of environmental sustainability as it's not put on display, the butter was little packets of Anchor, for example, rather than local butter without the packaging. They do use coffee cups, similar to the ones used in WeSup which I think are made from coffee husks... hence the 4/5, because I get the sense some very good intentions are there but it's not entirely sustainability focused. If I was judging it based on sustainability then maybe it would have to be a slightly lower score, but the 4 is with respect to the alternative options on offer in the area and in comparison to the other cafe options in the region, of which there are very few at gold standard, except in Totnes.
Decor is very stylish, staff super friendly, and there is a sense of glamour to the place. Well worth a visit even if coming from the outside the area, and a welcome new...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic cafe - the gem of Preston. It has a wonderful community spirit. Very friendly and helpful staff as well as lovely locals too. It’s decorated really gorgeous with a relaxing yet uplifting vibe. There is seating out back in the courtyard garden too. They are adding more vegan and healthy options on the menu over time which is great. Since the new ownership took over last year it’s now got much friendlier staff, much improved opening times, and a nicer atmosphere in general. They are open some evenings too offering stuff like quiz night and can host private events. It’s dog friendly and child friendly. The breakfasts are a little different than other places - avocado and on the vine tomato’s, no beans, sourdough bread, it’s very good and is cooked beautifully. The best thing though is how delicious the coffees are! They offer light and dark (stronger) roast options and various milk options. Genuinely really good coffee made by people who are passionate for it. They do a good coffee and cake deal. I hope that one day they will make a vegan coffee as they sound brilliant! Thank you Franx - keep up...
Read moreCame here for lunch with a friend. Menu was quite simple but if you want something breakfasty and with a twist then this is the place for you. Its small and independently run which i fully support and the owners put a lit of thought and research into the menu.
I had avocado on sourdough toast. The avocado blend with chilli was flavorful, id say the toast needed a bit longer in the toaster but the bread was definitely fresh which was a plus. I had a latte whuch was also good. Everything was presented nicely. The wait for the food also wasnt too bad.
The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. It seemed to have a writer vibe to it in terms of the kind of customers they had plus families and pensioners. For people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs please note the access is via a couple of steep steps into the premises. I'd come back...
