Good Companions — Restaurant in England

This evening we had the pleasure of dining at The Good Companions in Woodley, situated within the distinguished Royal County of Berkshire. My husband selected the lamb shank whilst I opted for the Korean pork, and I must say both dishes were presented with impeccable artistry and executed to absolute perfection. The chef on duty, I believe Shane, displayed culinary talent of the very highest order and I cannot commend his skills highly enough.

I was also most impressed by the forthcoming festive menu, currently being promoted. May I suggest that those wishing to indulge during the season secure a reservation without delay, as I suspect availability will be limited.

Our gratitude extends also to our exceptional waiter, Billy, whose attentiveness and professionalism greatly enhanced the evening. The promptness of service, the refined ambience, and the immaculate standard of cleanliness all contributed to what was, quite simply, an exemplary dining experience.

For those seeking an extra-special experience, I was advised that one might consider dining on any evening other than Monday or Wednesday, when their outstanding team member, Callum, is in attendance. I recently held an informal party at The Good Companions where I'd arranged for a few friends, family and neighbours (35 adults and 8 children & young people) to join me in a drink and some food to celebrate reaching 60 years old. Nothing was too much trouble for Shane, Leanne and team in reserving one side of the pergola, preparing tasty buffet on arrival, a special menu for later, creating a fun quiz, providing great music and arranging for the bouncy castle to be available to keep the kids occupied. The whole day was a huge success, thank you to everyone involved and especially to Millie B, Billy, Joe and Calum who were on hand throughout the day and in to the evening, to look after everyone, taking drinks orders, so that people could keep enjoying the party.

First visit after the renovation. The pub looks very nice inside as does the outside seating area. The two waitresses who served us were very friendly. Unfortunately unable to give 5 stars though which is a shame as the food was very nice with a good choice on the menu. Unfortunately the speed of the food coming out was really slow. It was a Tuesday and there were only a few other people eating but our main meals took quite a long time. We then we had to ask twice where the desserts were after waiting nearly 25 minutes and there was no one else waiting for food by then. All of this wouldn't have been a problem on a weekend but we didn't expect to wait so long on a weekday. We will return as the staff are friendly, it's a nice pub with reasonable prices but I would hope the next time the food comes...
