We have had a couple of really disappointing experiences here over the last couple of months. It all seems to be around ordering food. First visit we were asked at the bar when ordering drinks if we wanted food (3 adults, 2 kids) we said yes and all was fine. We sat at a table with our drinks for not even 2 minutes when the staff came over and advised they can no longer serve us food. Annoying that they let us purchase drinks before telling us this. Second visit we booked a table for 6 as didn’t want to be turned away like previously. 8 of us went to the pub which sent the staff into a panic. I quickly explained only 6 were eating and the other 2 were stood at the bar watching the football. Another staff member came to the table and again confirmed we could only order 6 meals as booking was only for 6… again I explained and confirmed that was fine. They advised their kitchen is small and can only serve bookings etc which again I didn’t see the problem as booking was for 6. We staggered our orders which they said would be helpful and firstly ordered 2 lunch meals and 2 sides…. 10 minutes later yet another staff member came to the table and said we only had 2 meals left to order as the sides (chips and onion rings) were classed as 2 of our meals!! So not only did we all eat at different times, 2 members of our group didn’t even get a meal! All of this was completely unnecessary and made the whole experience very uncomfortable. It’s such a shame our local pub is so unwelcoming and we won’t be rushing to visit again...
Read moreI had an extremely unacceptable and unfortunate experience during my recent visit to this pub. When I was asked for ID at the bar, the staff member remarked that it was because my shirt “looks quite childish”—a completely inappropriate and unprofessional comment.
I then ordered food, which came out incorrectly. Although the team attempted to fix the order, it remained wrong on the second attempt, and even on the third try. At that point, the staff member said, “I would say third time lucky, but he’s done it wrong again, so I’m happy to refund you.” It was shocking to see incorrect orders knowingly brought to the table multiple times. It made me genuinely concerned about the working environment, whether the kitchen staff are unapproachable or even intimidating to the front-of-house team.
When I went to request the refund, the staff member attempted to refund me using her own personal money—something I absolutely refused, as that is completely unacceptable and not her responsibility. This made me question the level of support and management oversight at this establishment.
Whether it’s Greene King as the owner or the site management team that have made decision to make staff complete refunds from their own pocket, I feel deeply sorry for the team who are very clearly working under extremely poor and excruciatingly toxic management. I hope action is taken to improve both customer service and the working conditions for the team.

Read moreTonight I went into the Green Man with a number of friends who have grown up in the area and who’s families have always frequented the Green Man, (our local) I have used this pub since I was 18 years old actually in truth before that, and I am now 61. Tonight we were told that the bar was closed at 11.00 pm with the pub very busy although the website said it was closing at 12.00 am. We were enjoying the night just spending time with old friends and I went up to get the last drink. I asked the bar staff and the landlady why it closed at 11.00 when the website said 12.00. I was told it closed at 11.00 for the last two years??? We have had a pandemic when pubs were suffering badly?? The Green King website said it had confirmed with the venue within the last two weeks that it was open until 12.00. I never row with people as I am very easy going but I feel that the attitude of the staff now at the pub leaves a lot to be desired. It it’s a place that my whole family have frequented going back to the early Seventies and I no longer feel welcome. I am gutted that I had a row, but I went outside and the outside area was packed with people who had been turfed out to finish their drinks who were of the same opinion regarding being told to leave. TWO THINGS. If you are a business and your website says you are open until 12.00 and the place is VERY busy. Why do you close at 11.00.
