The initial call to reserve under the Eat Out scheme was efficiently handled and the Covid 19 measures explained well+our request for an outside table complied with immediately. On arrival we were warmly greeted and placed just as requested and given two parasols to shade us from the sun's glare! The menu is extensive and clear and Cerease, our waitress, helpfully explained as necessary. A great range of, milkshakes; ours lush! All freshly cooked food and very tasty-huge portions! My veggie/vegan hotdog with blue cheese in a brioche was the largest and best I've ever'ever had. Two of us were very full but we just had to try the ice-creams!! So delicious and yummy with extra bits! Nothing was too much for Kerry, who chatted a tad, when time allowed. She changed my ice-cream for me and that's only because I decided didn't like the flavour!! V kind. Altogether an excellent meal and it's unsurprising that my friends are regular visitors here. We will return! V good value even without the deal! Thank you and mille grazie Kerry, Cerease and Steph! Maggie...

Two of us ate and had breakfast, and both of us had the works. The works was a good-sized breakfast, which was cooked well and presented nicely. We had coffee with it, which was nice and hot and had a good taste. The service was quick and polite and the 50's American theme in the resteraunt was really well done. It certianly somewhere I would consider going back to dinner.

The only slight disappointment was a gentleman (who appeared to be known to the owners) who felt it necesssey to have a loud conversation on his mobile phone, on loudspeaker, and no one from the staff seemed to find that at all strange or suggest to him that perhaps it was better done outside for the benefit of those dining inside, who didn't want to hear both parts of his loud conversation.

If I had any feedback to the owners on how to get 5 stars, it would be that it would benefit them to ask people, in such circumstances, to take phone calls outside, as to not disturb other diners inside who were trying to...

Friend welcome and quick to take order. Food was slow to arrive considering that place and nearly empty. While was waited it was easy to see that the place needed and detail clean or less ornaments for them to clean. During were stock, mostly bottled. Bottled cola with straw, no offer of a glass. Once food arrived, it was reasonable well presented. It seemed and lots of it bought in, but the items that should be fresh looked like they were. The food was ok; that it thought just ok. I could have bought ready meals and ovened them for the same result. All in all it was cheap, look nothing like any American dinner I’ve ever been in (unless you stole all the cliches from films and TV shows), strangely offering English breakfasts (American cooked are way different); the food hot and edible.

Would I revisit? Yes, but mostly for either convenience or no...

Grumpy's is a 60's American-diner themed restaurant that has plenty of options. Burgers, hot dogs, nachos, milkshakes, and more. I opted for the vegan hot dog and I have to say it tasted exactly like I remember typical American hot dogs do. I did wonder if it was definitely vegan because it resembled the meat version so closely. I had a mac and cheese topping which was also nice and didn't overpower the taste of the hot dog. Could tell it was definitely vegan cheese. For dessert I got the brownie. It was warm and gooey and delicious. Again, I wondered if it was vegan, it was one of the better brownies I've had in a long time. I'd recommend Grumpy's to anyone wanting American diner food that is plant-based/vegan. The service is also really friendly. They also do food challenges if you've got a big appetite. The breakfast one definitely has a vegan version.

Best American Diner in Essex (UK)? We thought so!!! - service was great thanks to Kerry, food was plentiful and very delicious, authentic Americana decoration & period correct 50’s music playing in background, our food was fresh hot and quality ingredients, we’ve been to USA recently and this was better value (crazy but US is now way too expensive), so our summary, if you’re looking for the authentic Diner experience and very hungry we’d recommend you get yourself down to Grumpys Diner, around an hour by Rail from central London on the Fenchurch to Shoeburyness line or driving straight down the A13 to Southend On Sea. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!! Andy & Joe.
