Wow, wow, wow! 5 years straight we have come to Cornwall, and in the 4 years before this year's trip if anyone had asked where to go I'd have said another establishment more in land. This year we decided that last year's trip to our usual spot was a bit naff and so we decided to go "rogue" and try somewhere new!! Off to gwennas teahouse then! The only slight thing that was tricky was that there is no real parking that suited our needs on the day and so I dropped my fiance and mother-in-law at the gwennas tea house and then parked up the hill in a local street... To be fair, the food I was about to consume meant that a little walk was probably for the best π ππ
Anyway, we got seated inside nice and quickly, the staff were all so friendly, the atmosphere for such a small establishment and we were instantly at ease with our choice! The cream teas here are 2 scones (no fruit), cream and jam with either tea or coffee all for a very reasonable price too. My fiance does not drink hot drinks and so we asked if we could switch her drink for a coke, the young lady said we could and that it would be a bottle of coke, we thought for sure that we are going to be charged extra for this swap, I also asked for a latte not a 'standard' coffee. We also thought this may incur an extra charge...
The food took a little while to come but once it did we knew why, it was fresh! The scones were ample size (fist sized) and we're warm and freshly baked! This is soooo rare in any establishment let alone in Cornwall, so we were very happy. Then came the clotted cream and jam in large servings, now because we were a 3 we had it all in the same dish and as huge lovers of cream and jam on our scones we felt this might not be enough however before I could ask if we could get more a slightly older lady (possibly the owner) said if you need more jam or cream let her know!! π
I once visited Cornwall (Looe) as a child with my nan and grandad I had led a fairly sheltered and deprived life and so the idea of jam cream and scones were a delight then, and they still are now. On that trip we went to a farm and had fresh scones that day, I took my first bite and looked at my nan, I tilted my head back, joy spread across my face and I said to my grandparents "I think I've died and gone to heaven), gwenna teahouse outdid that, made me feel like I'd never had cream tea before visiting and it's for that reason that as long as they are in business and making it all the same we will go back!
When we finished our delighful treats we then asked for the bill assuming there would be extras. However gwenna did not charge extra and that is a rarity as well, it's the little things in life that make you remember a place or experience and gwenna had covered it all.
I did tell them we'd be back that trip but, alas, circumstances and events conspired against me, however when we visit the most beautiful place on earth again next year we will definitely be stopping here for my new, favourite cream tea. Thanks gwenna, you truly made...
Β Β Β Read moreThis place is lovely I had pre booked an afternoon tea for 5. The food was delicious, but it was not what I asked for. Having chatted on the phone about the food requirements I made it very clear the 3 people wanted vegetarian, one meat, one only cheese. It was agreed that I would receive one meat sandwich and one cheese sandwich. I believed that this would be a round of sandwiches of each as the 2 people making those requests didn't want vegetarian and my daughter would only eat cheese. Sadly on arrival we received 1 finger of meat and 1 finger of cheese, this was obviously very disappointing to my family members. We didn't want to make a fuss as there was clearly crossed wires but please keep this in mind if you want to make any special requests. Also please note there are no toilets on site and you have to walk to the beach to use the public ones. Not ideal with a...
Β Β Β Read moreMy family and I visited in early July and it was a truly beautiful experience. We were very fortunate to be accommodated as we hadnβt pre-booked a table but fortune was on our side. Shall definitely remember to book ahead of time in the future. The choices of beverage are plenty but not overwhelming. The cutlery and crockery were so pretty and very clean. Our cream teas with such lovely warm scones were delightful. Very light which a lot of other establishments do not get right. We ordered a slice of their Victoria sponge, the chocolate brownie and the millionaire shortbread all of which were scrumptious and not overly sweet. My daughter had a vegan hot chocolate which she loved. Thank you to everyone at...
