Ordered from Kao Hom for the first time yesterday and unfortunately probably the last. We often order from another Thai food spot on the other side of Newquay and that place has been consistently brilliant but we've always been curious if Kao Hom was part of the same family and if the food was just as good as the other place (which you can find in my other reviews). I'm not sure if there's any relation between the 2 spots but I am sure the other one is world's apart from this one. To have a fair comparison we ordered one of our regular dishes we usually get from the other spot, chicken jasmine rice, aswell as a couple of sides we've never had from a Thai before, fish cakes and chicken samosas. To start with the chicken jasmine rice is a similar portion to the other spot however it is much more expensive and nowhere near as nice. The other spot has better quality chicken with much more flavour and is loaded with fresh veg. This spot came with bland overly stodgy dry rice, chicken not so succulent and absolutely zero veg. Moving onto the fish cakes, they had a horrible rubbery texture similar to halloumi and were very fishy and unpleasant. Ate one to try and threw the rest. The chicken samosas were the only enjoyable aspect. A great menu item in theory but could be executed better. When we called to order we were unsure if the price was for a portion or an individual large samosa. We asked the question over the phone and were told it was 1 item. We both fancied trying 1 so we ordered 2, expecting 2 large individual samosas... it turned out to be 2 portions of mini samosas which we didnt really need. On the plus side they were well filled with chicken mince and had a lovely flavour. On a critical note despite the nice taste they were dry inside and also had no veg and no texture. We expected fresh coriander inside and there was none. On a more positive note the sweet chilli sauce accompanying the samosas was a nice thick sticky consistency with lovely flavours. All in the food came to £32.50 for 2 chicken and rice, 2 portions of mini samosas and a portion of 5 mini fish cakes. Also was told cash only which meant we had to use additional time and fuel locating a cash machine. Unfortunately I have to conclude the food here is fairly mediocre, expensive and inconvenient to pay for. The other spot has a much higher quality of cooking, is notably cheaper and much better value for money and has the convenience of ordering and paying online or paying by card on arrival. Unfortunately with these 2 Thai places being the only or main 2 spots in Newquay and being rivals its a no brainer to just carry on using the other one. This seems more of a tourist trap and I was dissapointed given the overall reviews by other customers. Overall 5/10.

Happy surprise find. We were struggling to find somewhere to eat on a busy Friday night, drove passed this place and doubled back to check out. We have high standards with Thai food, the menu looked good and authentic and it was run by 4 Thai women with all the right sauces, pastes and garnished around the trailer. The wait time on for was 45mins and after being turned away by 3 other restaurants we thought it was fine for the wait and just drive around or walk up to the park a stone's throw away. Food came hot and fresh and on time. Had the moo ping BBQ pork, satay chicken, red curry, jasmine rice and chicken with cashew. All very good, spicy, Thai style and very very generous portions for a very reasonable price. £25 all in. Couldn't finish it all. Would be up there with the best thai's we've had in the UK. Not a high bar admittedly, but still much more authentic than expected. Highly recommend, it is only a food trailer so no seating but the have plastic utensils and the park is...

After looking up this in the area, this one seemed to have the best reviews so went to give it a try. It's a small van by a car wash so not the most obvious spot. There was already a couple of people waiting in front of me which is often a good sign! There is a good variety of different starters and mains. I ordered 2 starters, a rice and a stir fry which came to just under £20. The portions are really big and I have could probably be shared if you are not big eaters. There was around a 40 minute wait but the food was the best I've had since visiting Newquay. You can call in advance to order too. Will be visiting again...
