I've had Barnecutts on a number of occasions this week whilst I've been on holiday and that says it's offered consistency, accessibility and convenience. I've tried a number of items from the menu to build an informed review.
Overall the best thing I've tried is the jam donuts. They are absolutely the best donuts I've ever tried and exceptional value at just 75p each.
Onto the proper food... the best pasty I've tried is the steak pasty. This pasty had the most flavour and had a lovely saucy juiciness inside. There wasn't a great deal of meat but the meat was nice. However it wasn't the best pasty in the world. I've had far better pasties elsewhere. I would drive from Newquay to Looe for a Sarah's pasty but wouldn't drive from Looe to Newquay for Barnecutts. Same story with Philps in Hayle I would absolutely drive to Hayle for a Philps pasty but wouldn't do the reverse journey for a Barnecutts.
So the steak is the best pasty and it's a solid 8/10, the beef madras also very tasty but very little meat inside I got literally maybe 3 or 4 pieces of beef the size of a tictac mint also a 8/10 the cheese and onion I'd give a 6/10, veg pasty also a 6/10. Jumbo Sausage rolls maybe a 7/10.
Overall its a decent bakery with great customer service, very friendly staff, ideally situated near a multitude of fantastic beaches. Decent-ish food at reasonable prices.
Better than your usual large chain rubbish Greggs/Warren's...
Read moreStaff are lovely and we was able to get our frozen pasties quickly. EDIT PART OF COMMRNT - after having the pasties im very annoyed at the taste. There is no black pepper (extremely important) to be tasted and our traditional pasties are basically onion and a bit of meat, we paid £48 for 18 frozen pasties and couldn't be more Disappointed. We hoped it was just one pasty but after having a few different traditional ones they are all the same. The cheese and onion ones are the same too much onion, but are nicer than that latter. With nice strong cheese. Whoever is making the pasties need to calm down on the onion and add other ingredients as well as plenty of black pepper. Chunky meat and vegetables with loads black pepper is what makes a very decent pasty. The pastry is fine and very nice. But inside is paper thin vegetables loads of onion and little meat with no black pepper. I hate to put bad review but the amount of money we paid to be able to take them back home is annoying. I lived most my life in Cornwall and have moved awhile away so we can't just buy a decent pasty near us. It's a shame to try a new company and be such big mistake. I assumed having a few shops would make these pasties decent. Looking at pasties comments some pictures show chunky vegetables so I have no idea what has changed but its a big...
Read moreSome of the pasties even have meat in them! (Beware the potentially unplanned vegetarian options) Bought two pasties and drinks for me and my partner to enjoy overlooking the sea. Unfortunately my pastie had literally one “chunk” (actually several small pieces melded together) of meat in it, whilst my partners was reasonable. Certainly not good value for money at £3.35 per medium pastie - is this as good as they get? Don’t trust me, trust the photos, guess which two pics were of my pastie. If we had t walked a fair distance before eating, I would have returned for a refund. Sort out your portion...
