People of colour be warned!! The security team clearly demonstrated racial profiling when they asked a person of colour to leave the pub without any explanation. The only explanation was that the security manager told them to do so. They then insisted that the manager was not available to respond and this could only be queried on Monday. However after much insistence from the aggrieved party, it turned out the security manager was there. His flimsy explanation was that the person of colour they had asked to leave had stumbled when they initially entered the pub(never actually happened). However, even if there was a stumble, there was never an opportunity given to ascertain if this person of colour was a indeed intoxicated before chucking them out. The security manager ,after talking to the person of colour then stated that he could see he was not intoxicated and he would let him back in( but with no apology about the horrible treatment). It was appalling that there was no explanation initially given for the unceremonious expulsion of the person of colour. Then it turned out they had made an assumption based on their racial profiling, which turned out to be untrue- person of colour allegedly stumbled once, so he must be drunk and needs to be taken out immediately. The security manager then had the audacity to claim that he had people of colour as friends and so he was not racist(but clearly just acting racist). It was a surprise that this non-existing stumble at the back initial entry was enough to remove a person of colour from a pub full of young white and obviously drunk young people. By the way after the person of colour had entered there was no unruly or untoward behaviour from him at all. People of colour should stay away from this establishment that gives a bad name to the lovely people of Isle of Wight! My question is , does the pub provide equality and diversity training to its security staff?? If they do they clearly did not demonstrate it on this night. Hog head please action this and do not...
Read moreFirst time I'd ever been here, but I'm glad I did. - things might have been completely different! A group of us were out in Newport last night, and decided we wanted to dance into the night, so we headed towards the pub which is actually next door to where we ended up.(I won't mention any names, but suffice it to say that it sounds like "smug and letters") Long story short, I was turned away at the door, because I was wearing trousers which were deemed to be "tracksuit bottoms ", so we tried next door (successfully) Once inside, I ordered a drink for each of us and we found a table. The music was exactly my "cup of tea", with a lot of 90s rave and trance, so I immediately hit the dance floor and remained there for at least an hour. The guy doing the music was very accommodating when I asked for certain songs, and even gave me a mention, calling me their "resident raver"! All in all, a really great night, which, I'm sure wouldn't have been so much fun if we'd ended up a couple of doors up the road. I'm looking forward to reviewing that place, as you...
Read moreNice ambience, pleasant, efficient barman. I ordered a burger for my wife, and a veggie burger for myself, explaining that I wanted my veggie burger plain, and wanted no dressing or mayonaisse on it. We are on holiday, but had a bit of schedule, since we wanted to go to Carisbrooke Castle. When the food arrived, my burger was not only smothered in mayo, it had what appeared to be a 3 bean chilli all over it ! The barman, in fairness, had passed my request onto the kitchen, who had apparently ignored my request. The barman offered me a replacement, but we had no time. I scraped the mayo and sauce off the veggie burger, and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed it, when we got back to the van. The chips were delicious, however. The pub was very quiet at the time, and we appeared to be the only...
