We came for Christmas dinner for a change, but had to wait 2 hours - despite booking and paying £200 (for three) in October. No sign of the management, they clearly were not interested in fronting up to the many disgruntled guests. When it finally came, the food was horrendous, and the most pathetic attempt at a Christmas dinner in living memory. Considering the £60 per head price tag, it was absolutely shocking. Don’t bother “reaching out” - it’s too late, our Christmas was ruined. Needless to say, even though we live a few hundred meters away, we have no intention ever to return.

It's ok to be honest, not normally a place I'd visit and I probably won't go again unless I need to attend a function/party etc; however, that's not a reflection on the pub, it's just not my kind of place. We didn't eat; however, the food smelt and looked pretty nice, the staff were all friendly, polite and helpful, which is always a good thing. The beer was disappointingly average, having said that it's a Marston's pub so it was never going to be able to compete with Derby's best. Overall it's actually pretty decent, just not really the type of place I'd visit.

Large pub/restaurant with a spacious outdoor area including some pod/ booth seating. Inside there is ample seating for diners or those just going for a drink and to watch the live sports. The food was good quality and came quickly, being very good value and generous portions. They also had special offers such as Monday being a pizza night with pizza and a drink for under £11. The dining area was clean and staff were attentive. Plenty of free parking on site.

I regularly go to the Jonty for a pizza with my partner, but have recently noticed some issues which have put me off recently.

The elderly lady who works behind the bar has no business being there. Each time she has taken my order on each individual visit, she complains about not being able to understand the till and therefore my order comes to the table wrong. A couple of visits ago, I asked for a bowl of plain nachos and I had to send them back 3 times before they stopped putting dip and cheese on them. My partner doesn't eat meat or dairy so am careful about what we order, but we do have to send things back regularly. The waiting staff are fantastic though and always sort the food out without complaint and are very polite. Please Jonty, replace your bar staff, it lets your pub down.

On my last visit, I ordered a pizza (which is fantastic here if you haven't had one) and you can watch them prepare it from the pizza oven at the front of the pub. I noticed that the chef preparing my pizza had decent length hair and a beard, but did not wear any hair coverings while preparing the food. Usually they do cover their hair and all is well, but I did notice this time non was used. There were no hairs in my meal, but it just stuck me as a bit lacking in hygiene.

Please Jonty, either ban young children or designate a specific area for families. Too many times I come into your pub to enjoy a meal and a drink with friends and family only to have it ruined by loud children running around while their parents don't seem to give a crap what their children are doing. The last time we came in for a meal, a young girl (approx 5 or 6) was sat at a table screaming and shouting while her mum (I assume it was her mum) sat on her phone with a pint. On other occasions children run about the pub while people are trying to eat. It ruins the atmosphere and makes people want to leave.

Lastly, smokers. During the summer time, we could not sit outside and enjoy the sunshine because every other table had someone puffing away on it. It smelled horrible and ruins nice sunny days for us non smokers. Again, designate a specific area outside during the summer for smokers and non smokers. On more than one occasion I came to the Jonty with friends only to go elsewhere because we wanted to sit outside in the sun but couldn't due to smokers. Some even stand right outside the main entrance next to the no smoking sign. If you could enforce a no smoking in the outside seating area and have a smoking area somewhere else, I think this would sort the problem out.

I do love coming here but there's a lot that needs improving. I hope you make some important and necessary changes to bring it back to being a 5 star...

Christmas meal. There were 13 of us booked in and all pre ordered. Table booked for 12.00. After a few queries about the length of waiting time, the starters came out after a 40 min wait. My starter was mushrooms in cheese and ale sauce on toasted baguette. The baguette was lightly toasted at one end, the "sauce" was a very thin tasteless liquid about a tablespoon surrounded by a few luke warm (looked and tasted like tinned mushrooms) Asked for butter but only flora available. My friend had pate which consisted of a roll of pate, a teasp of chutney, green leaves and 2 tiny pieces of white bread, no butter..not toasted either. Those that didn't have starters waited 1hr 20mins for mains....again we had to keep asking where the food was. I had turkey.....looked like the plate had been under a lamp for a long time...dried up turkey with dried up gravy, dried up carrots and parsnip slices, pale looking "roast" potatoes (looked like boiled potatoes with a squirt of oil) but the worst thing was the broccoli which was completely burnt!? 'Shall I get you some more broccoli?' at which point I just said no thank you, just take the meal away as I just had had enough. I have to mention Cassie who did her absolute best to sort things out but it was not her fault that clearly who ever was working/cooking in the kitchen did not have one clue how to cook or present hot decent meals. Cassie prepared the desserts which were fine. All in all a very bad experience, will most definitely never go there again to eat and would not recommend. The 1 star is for Cassie and the young lad...

I went to the John Farmer today with my grandchildren and a friend we ordered lunch. The children had chips and fishfingers and peas. I couldn’t believe what was served to me. Wilted rocket that wasn’t fit to eat cold chicken, cold bacon on top cheese that look like it’s been sitting there for an hour and chips that were like brick. The kids peas they didn’t eat because they said they were hard, so I tried them and they were I ordered a bottle of water and I was given tapwater in a bottle I’d never go again. The food was absolutely disgraceful. I worked in catering for the best part of 18 years. I wouldn’t have even sent it out, poor poor food, shame on yourselves for even serving it never go again and people wonder why all the pubs are closing all this fast food rubbish you know get a cook Cook real food was real vegetables from your local farmer. Shame on the company nobody wants to eat that rubbish everywhere is fake food. Everybody’s tired of fake food serve some real food real chips that are made from guess what potato real food and put some vegetables and some salads and local dishes put pubs back to be in pubs rant over I just think people have forgotten what real food taste like and what it is because what was on them menus there’s no nutrients in that food,...
