🌺 Kona, Falmouth – A Truly Exceptional Dining Experience (Even When Things Go Wrong!)
We booked a table at Kona for 5:00 PM — myself, my partner, and our little one. We arrived about ten minutes early, as you normally would to allow for check-in or waiting times. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted warmly and seated straight away at our reserved table.
First impressions: the décor is absolutely stunning — a real tropical escape! The tiki-style theme is beautifully done, and we loved the small touch of being given tiki necklaces, which instantly set the mood. Menus were already laid out on the table, and our pre-request for a high chair (made during booking) was promptly met by the staff, who brought one over with a smile — great attention to detail and respect for family needs.
As the high chair arrived, our server asked for our drink order. I went for a mocktail (as I was driving) and my partner chose the Zombie cocktail. My mocktail was refreshing, fruity, and delicious, and my partner absolutely loved her Zombie — though be warned, it’s a strong one! Both drinks looked incredible; the presentation was high-end, the kind of quality you’d happily pay more for — though the prices were actually spot on.
Roughly 10–15 minutes later, we were asked for our food order by a young member of staff who was polite, friendly, and full of energy. We ordered starters and mains, and requested that our little one’s meal come out with the starters — a simple request, which unfortunately the whole order never made it to the kitchen.
After around 45 minutes, we noticed that tables seated after us were already being served while we were still waiting. At that point, the manager — who had been actively walking the floor, helping staff, and chatting with guests — noticed our table and came over to check in. My partner explained we had ordered 45 minutes ago, and his shocked reaction made it clear that this wasn’t the standard he expected.
He immediately went to investigate, returned shortly after to apologise professionally, and retook our order himself to ensure it was pushed through. Despite a large party order going through the kitchen at the same time, he managed to fast-track our meals, offered us complimentary drinks, and made sure everything arrived quickly and perfectly presented.
From there, the experience turned completely around. The food was delicious, the drinks were once again top-tier, and the manager checked in multiple times to ensure we were happy. He even asked (politely and professionally) which staff member had originally taken our order so he could address the issue — it was handled with care, not blame, which shows strong leadership.
When the bill arrived, it should have totalled £99, but the manager had applied a £33 goodwill discount for the mix-up — a classy and much-appreciated gesture.
As someone who works in retail and customer service, I can honestly say this manager is a credit to the business. Mistakes happen, but it’s how they’re handled that defines a company — and Kona turned what could’ve been a disappointing evening into one of the best dining experiences we’ve had.
Even though this was our first visit — and started off rocky — we left genuinely impressed, satisfied, and eager to return.
Whoever the manager was that night: Sir, you are a true gentleman and an absolute asset to your team.

A couple of weeks ago, when visiting Falmouth (and on a wet Wednesday), my daughter and I ventured into Kona. Being honest, we had tried to get into some of the other food establishments in the area, but the majority of them weren't serving food due to not having a chef, or having lent their chef to another restaurant.
We were warmly greeted by Adele, who confirmed their kitchen was up and running, but (for today) they couldn't serve alcohol. This didn't bother my daughter and I as there were plenty of soft drinks and mocktails to try.
Adele showed us to a table, let us get settled and then gave us some menus. First off we ordered some mocktails. My daughter opted for the peach fruit cooler and I had the Nada-Lada. Both drinks were delicious. We then ordered our mains. We both chose a poke bowl with cauliflower karaage. The freshness of the food and the intense flavours was insane. By far the best meal of our holiday!
Throughout our time there, staff were really attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. At times, they chatted with us and were really polite.
Our visit lasted a couple of hours. After our meal, we just stayed having drinks as we watched my niece's graduation on my phone. (I can recommenrd the hot chocolate too.)
The level of cleanliness was high and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Thank you so much to Adele, Manon and Alena for brightening up a dreary...
Read moreCame in on a Friday evening, it was quiet throughout Falmouth. On arrival we were told it would be a 30 minute wait on food. This was completely fine had our drinks orders taken and these came quick. 15 minutes in we were told in 10 minutes they would take our orders. 30 minutes later and two other tables adjacent to us being sat and having their food order taken, we finally had our orders taken. I had the scallops main at £18 which according to the description included fries. Mains were received fairly promptly with the promise that my fries were on the way. 15 minutes later we asked for the fries. They arrived just after my friend finished her meal. On clearing away the plates the manager asked if we had enjoyed the food which we had but obviously service was incredibly slow to which he said “yeah I can’t even say we have been busy”. He took the fries off and gave us both a free drink. Which was lovely. Went to pay the bill and I had been charged the full price that I was expecting £18. He explained that the wording on the menu was wrong and he has now changed it that evening (because both our menus did not mention additional charge for fries) So the main portion of scallops was £18 plus fries at £4. To be honest at this point we were both extremely tired and just wanted to leave so paid the bill and went home. I’m local and do like going out in Falmouth for food and drink but I think I’ll avoid Kona for food...
