Overpriced and unauthentic
I had high hopes for this restaurant but it was very disappointing in all honesty. I booked a "table" for two to be sat at a cramped bar shoulder to shoulder with other customers on a stool that I was convinced was trying to send me to A&E. I was also surprised at how souless the place felt, devoid of any real culture and white washed, playing western pop songs. The real issue is that everything there felt cheap and unfortunately not just the decor. The food didn't taste fresh, the noodles were only marginally better than instant noodles, and the sushi tasted like it was store bought. The website claiming it serves "high quality" and "authentic" sushi and food in general is a slap in the face to Asian cuisine and I wouldn't believe anyone enjoying food there has ever stepped foot in Asia. The restaurant was busy as well but we waited for over half an hour to get the bill and over another ten minutes after I asked a member of staff for it when it was clear no one was going to ask if we needed anything else. Members of staff were just standing around at times as well as if we weren't sat in the most visible seat in the entire establishment! Overall, a disgrace to Japanese food and culture and I will not be going again. Seriously, you'd get better sushi across the road at M&S...
Read moreI had to change the review I wrote 2 years ago as my recent experience wasn't a pleasant one. I have been really enjoying going to Koyo and often find staff friendly. The boss Alex is very nice and very pleasant to talk to. So I went there again with my friend recently, on Saturday 10 May, and was served by a rude young man. I politely pointed out that my friend may find the high chair by the bar uncomfortable and asked if we could sit on the table if no one was there. Instead of responding to me in a polite way, he told me to feel free to leave if not happy. I was really taken back and I never had such experience before in Koyo. There is a way to say things in a nice way, not to be this rude and arrangont. I have to say all othere staff were nice at that night but I am leaving this review as I wanted Alex to read it. Rude staff can ruin the reputation of a restaurant and this is true in many cases in the customer service industry. Perhaps the young man on rota in that evening coule do with more training on customer service and actually change...

You might want to take a closer look at the customise made comic strip printed on it but please be mindful of the other customers and don’t stay too long in there because there’s only one!
Note: very popular with the locals so book in advance to not be disappointed
