This beautifully appointed eatery has it all – a well rounded menu, friendly staff and a proprietor who really puts his passion into the place. My two mates and I had a cross selection of sushi (only three kinds of fish at the moment – tuna, salmon and prawn – very good quality though), octopus balls (which were rich, tasty and sumptuous), Ebi prawns (delicious) and last but not least Beef Tataki, which came in a very generously sized portion and was tender, aromatic and an absolute delight. On the drinks side there are your usual range of Japanese beers, whiskeys and of course Sakes. Koyo is a place to come back to. Whilst not quite up there with classic Japanese eateries such as Taro in London it definitely hits the spot when dealing with cravings for Japanese cuisine in the Chilterns.

Second time in two weeks. First time, brothers birthday. Second, with work colleagues. Alex is a warm and attentive host with newbies(of Japanese cuisine), staff are genuinely supportive and informative about the stunning and tasty dishes. Also grateful for the recommendations to other bars in Amersham (The Beech house). Koyo is a worthy Japanese SUSHI experience, please book as space is limited. Food is freshly made and competitively priced. Alcohol is available, traditionally Japanese beers and wines as well as quality champagne and fine wines. Located 8mins walk from the Metropolitan train station. Though myself being a little lazy came by taxi from Uxbridge. Certainly worthwhile.

Very tasty yummy sushi for decent price that allows you to splash out without too much worrying how much it will cost. Service was fast friendly and attentive. They offer takeaway but needs to be ordered in advance. Reservation is highly advised and a place to visit if you are visiting or local. Only dislike was the sticky feeling on tables which I assume due to the varnish on the wood not agreeing with the sanitisers used to clean resulting a permanent stickiness on its surface.

Overpriced and unauthentic

I had high hopes for this restaurant but it was very disappointing in all honesty. I booked a "table" for two to be sat at a cramped bar shoulder to shoulder with other customers on a stool that I was convinced was trying to send me to A&E. I was also surprised at how souless the place felt, devoid of any real culture and white washed, playing western pop songs. The real issue is that everything there felt cheap and unfortunately not just the decor. The food didn't taste fresh, the noodles were only marginally better than instant noodles, and the sushi tasted like it was store bought. The website claiming it serves "high quality" and "authentic" sushi and food in general is a slap in the face to Asian cuisine and I wouldn't believe anyone enjoying food there has ever stepped foot in Asia. The restaurant was busy as well but we waited for over half an hour to get the bill and over another ten minutes after I asked a member of staff for it when it was clear no one was going to ask if we needed anything else. Members of staff were just standing around at times as well as if we weren't sat in the most visible seat in the entire establishment! Overall, a disgrace to Japanese food and culture and I will not be going again. Seriously, you'd get better sushi across the road at M&S...

I had to change the review I wrote 2 years ago as my recent experience wasn't a pleasant one. I have been really enjoying going to Koyo and often find staff friendly. The boss Alex is very nice and very pleasant to talk to. So I went there again with my friend recently, on Saturday 10 May, and was served by a rude young man. I politely pointed out that my friend may find the high chair by the bar uncomfortable and asked if we could sit on the table if no one was there. Instead of responding to me in a polite way, he told me to feel free to leave if not happy. I was really taken back and I never had such experience before in Koyo. There is a way to say things in a nice way, not to be this rude and arrangont. I have to say all othere staff were nice at that night but I am leaving this review as I wanted Alex to read it. Rude staff can ruin the reputation of a restaurant and this is true in many cases in the customer service industry. Perhaps the young man on rota in that evening coule do with more training on customer service and actually change...

A wonderful hidden gem on Amersham high street. The food is so good on so many levels and of high quality sushi. The red and yellow toilets are a must see! You might want to take a closer look at the customise made comic strip printed on it but please be mindful of the other customers and don’t stay too long in there because there’s only one!

Note: very popular with the locals so book in advance to not be disappointed

Short summary Atmosphere - welcoming and homely Staff and management - super friendly and helpful. The owner is a wonderful local family man who makes you and your children feel like you are at home Kid friendly - yes, they will customise dishes to your child’s taste buds Menu and range selection - wide selection to suit everyone Recommend to friends and family - yes Cleanliness - yes, toilet is an amazing place you might find it hard to leave! Note - they offer call and take out service plus they will be on Deliveroo and just eat apps soon but only in the local...
