Finding an authentic Turkish restaurant in Bournemouth is not always easy, but as someone who never tires of searching out good Turkish food, I was delighted to discover Lahmacino on Charminster Road. This small, welcoming spot immediately sets the tone with its cosy atmosphere, and the open lahmacun and pide oven in the dining room adds both warmth and anticipation. Watching the chef at work as the dough is stretched, topped and slid into the flames is a sensory prelude to the meal itself.
True to the tradition of Turkish hospitality, the experience began with complimentary offerings – a fresh salad, a selection of meze and warm pita bread. This custom is one of the things that elevates Turkish dining beyond the purely culinary, embodying generosity and conviviality. It’s a detail I greatly appreciate, and one that instantly makes you feel at home.
The menu is extensive in the best possible way, echoing the spirit of a proper Turkish kebab house: Lahmacun, Pide, Adana Kofte, Lamb Shish, Sarma Beyti, Ali Nazik – all the essentials are there. We opted for Lahmacun, Pide and Adana Kofte. The Lahmacun was thin and crisp with a perfectly balanced topping of herbs and spiced mince, light yet deeply satisfying. The Pide was pillowy, slightly smoky from the oven, and comfortingly moreish. But the standout was the Adana Kofte – juicy, boldly spiced and cooked with just the right amount of char. As someone who has eaten countless versions of this dish, I can say this was impressively well-executed: tender, flavourful and true to its Anatolian roots.
To finish, we had Turkish tea and Kunefe – a fitting finale, with the sweet, syrup-soaked pastry and molten cheese pairing beautifully with the tannic lift of the tea.
A final word of thanks must go to Melis, who served us with warmth, speed and attentiveness. Her friendly approach elevated the whole experience and left us with the clear sense that this was more than just a meal – it was genuine hospitality.
Lahmacino is a gem for anyone seeking authentic Turkish flavours in Bournemouth, and a place I’ll be glad...
Read moreTotally lovely food with generous portions spoiled by a 40 minute wait for main course with no apology and two takeaway customers served while we sat there. 2 unopened cans of drink just put on our table, assumed glasses were coming, maybe with ice, but had to ask. Finished our food and just sat there, no attempt to remove dirty plates even though waitress walked past twice empty handed. No attempt to ask if we would like dessert or coffee, until I finally caught her eye and she had to ask.....we didn't, and she just walked away leaving the plates again! Foolishly expected to get a bill, but we had to go the counter to pay. These might be minor comments, but a little more polite attention to customers would go a long way. We will visit again, as the food...
Read moreIf you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience, Lahmacino is the place to be. Our group of seven was absolutely blown away by the fresh, flavorful food and exceptional service. The menu is a standout, packed with a variety of delicious options for every palate. But what truly surprised us were the prices – incredible value without compromising quality.
For instance, my wife enjoyed a hearty vegetarian meze main, complete with a salad and fresh bread starter, for just £9.00. It’s rare to find such quality and affordability in Charminster. Lahmacino truly is a hidden gem, and if you haven’t been, you’re missing out on one of the finest dining...
