I feel I had to post this amazing review for Lebaneat in Durham, nothing but exceptional!! From the outstanding and warm service from our young waitress (sorry can't remember her name) she couldn't do enough for us throughout our meal...so much so my daughter drew her a thank you picture - so sweet! We got a range of starters, falafel, Kibbeh Shamiyeh, Batata Harra, Chicken Wings, Cheesy garlic bread The falafel was so light, fresh and very tasty...the fired lamb meatballs were so juicy and full of flavour I absolutely loved these! The wings fell off the bone along with potato's full of herbs and spices. My daughter had the cheesy garlic bread and we pinched a slice - one of the best garlic breads weve had such a nice crispy base and the cheeseness was unbelievable. The chicken shawarma is different to anywhere else I've ate Lebanese food it's cooked in a sauce and comes out a red colour, different but tasty. All the meat was cooked to perfection and the portion sizes as you can see are generous. I got a biriyani chicken curry and the presentation for starters are top tier and the flavour were bang on. The mixed grills are worth every penny. We even had homemade lemonades made it front of us which I could of drank a gallon. We had a selection of Baklava and knefa and these were to die for. We absolutely loved everything. It's a gem to Durham and a throw away from the cathedral grounds. Already planning to visit next week , thanks so much for a beautiful meal.

Unfortunately after liking this place very much the first time I visited it, I've got to leave a negative review now. They demonstrated they couldn't upkeep the good standard, so I do not recommend it anymore and won't be visiting again any time soon. See on the photo the same dish me and someone else ordered. We ordered the same. The price is £18.95. First we were told we need rice as a side in addition. I said I prefer it with vegetables, which are listed in the dish anyway. Another person wanted rice. Then they came to confirm we indeed want rice, but explained it's a part of the dish, so I said yes, that's fine, bring rice too. And we both ended with salad (different) and chips, very little vegetables, no rice for me, plus two side chips. Why would we need so many chips??? Could have gone to chippy. Then we were said even if we don't want them just take them home. What an attitude, how generous! My lamb was also hard, and the 3d person in our company had beautifully arranged king prawns, but cold. I think the cook made an english version of the dish for some unclear reason. The person supervising the floor is unexperienced, the waiters are all young. They are trying to be nice, helpful, and do their best I'm sure, but they make mistakes too. If you want to pay for their work experience go on, book the table. I think the fault is with the management, not the waters.

Once a real destination spot in the city centre, it's now difficult to pop in and expect a quick service, even as a twosome. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon hoping for a light, stress free meal. We arrived around 4pm, and our order wasn't taken for 50 mins, with very few staff around to try to catch. Larger walk in groups appeared after we were sat down, and their orders were promptly placed and served. It felt as though we were forgotten about. Our starters arrived after 1 hour 10 mins, with the drinks (after another reminder) turned up shortly after. The staff apologised, but seemed very rushed off their feet, with a service that only filled 70% of the restaurant. We left 2 hours later, and even though the food was relatively good, it was marred by the VERY slow service. We even had to ask for the bill...twice...over 15 minutes... I do not want to discourage people from visiting this place if you're after genuinely good grilled food (and pretty amazing hummus/sambousek cheese), but I won't be recommending it to any of my friends.

The place looks inviting, the food is great also. However, it was a little difficult ordering as the waitress did not understand what we were asking. I asked if there was beer on draught, but she did not understand. I just ordered a bottle. I later found out there is no draught served only bottles, which are quite expensive, nearly £4 for a 300ml bottle. So, come to ordering food, 2 of my party ordered wraps - pointing to it on the menu as her English didn't seem too good. The food came, very good quality, very tasty and worth the money. Only thing was, the two who ordered wraps, didn't get wraps at all, but just left it at that due to the difficulty in ordering food. Apart from that little issue, everything was great. Food absolutely gorgeous and staff very polite and friendly. Would I go back, yes, would I recommend this place, definitely. Only thing I would say is make sure you are clear with your order.

Update 06/04/24: My wife and her friend were there about 4.30pmish, food was good as always - final service TERRIBLE. First of all, they were overcharged and when my wife spoke to the girl who served her - the girl said she couldn't do anything about the refund of the overcharge, as the manager wasn't available. My wife stood her ground and eventually received her refund of the over charged bill. Also, people were calling up on the phone, the girl said something to the man she was working with and herad him say, "just block the numbers..." - is this more people who have been overcharged and tried to get their money back?? Terrible service, this lets the place down - with think long and hard before returning, and if we do, we will scrutinize our bill, as i suggest you do,...

Please check your bill before you leave. The bad review is for the thieving tactics. Twice they've attempted to rip me off. The first we shrugged off as an honest mistake. Inflated prices different from the menu prices, had to argue my case, ask for the menu again before it was resolved.

The second was definitely a scam. They have a lunch menu with a starter and main at discount until 5pm. We sat down and ordered 8 minutes before the end time, I ordered from the discount menu, the waiter didn't say we couldn't order from that menu, so I assumed we had ordered from the "Lunch Time Menu". Even though the waiter walked away with 8 minutes to spare, on the bill it showed the order wasn't entered into the till until 1 minute AFTER the discount time expires, 9 minutes later.

The waiter must have been stood in the kitchen for minutes looking at his watch waiting, before he decided to meander over to the till to enter our order, knowing the lunch menu ended at 5pm. So they brought the bill, and again more mistakes. They expected us to pay full price for every plate amounting to £50.

The poor waitress I complained to says this happens all the time, and that the timer on the till was set wrong and the manager goes by that, after I said we ordered way before the 5pm time limit, and we wouldn't have ordered a starter if we'd known about the time limit ending BEFORE 5pm. Last time I ever step inside this restaurant. Scams every time. The star is for the food, the zero is for the devious tactics. Please check your bill...
