MASSIVELY OVERPRICED Visited on Saturday 24th June 2023, and purchased two vodka & oranges plus two Fire Bomb shots. The total came to £26.60, of which you can see they charged £2.95 per can of Fanta, these being small 330ml cans, which you can get for a fraction of the price in the shops and probably no more than a tenth of the price at a wholesaler. My partner questioned the member of staff to check the bill, but there was no mistake. It's blatant profiteering from customers who are unsuspecting - and would never imagine a can of pop to cost this much - until presented with the bill. The member of staff who served us all disappeared for a time while serving us, with no explanation. The only table we could find to sit at through the back was uncleaned, with spilt drink / dirty glasses. We've called in this place over many years, going back to when it was Varsity, but the shock of the bill and the poor service means this will probably be the last time.

Not nice! Went there with my family for food! Was full of groups of lads shouting and singing inappropriate songs! Staff didn't even ask them to quiet down a little! And there was loads of staff walking passed alot! No card machine good job I had cash! Food came I had the melt burger! It came and it was just warm and greasy! I lovely waitress and I explained she said sorry and would get me a new one! Second one came it was warmer but still very greasy! I didnt even eat it! My daughter had the Mac and cheese and she said that was nice. Avoid if you want a quiet meal! You'll not get it there!!!! Hi on your reply you said to email I have and had no response. Regards

My wife booked a bottomless brunch for us both for our stay in Durham.. I was a bit hesitant as I've done other bottomless brunches before and you always seem to be awaiting you're next "top up".... Not here. Craig the barman looked after us amazingly...making sure we were OK and forever serving us at the table👏... Serving us before any of the other customers made us feel really appreciated... Can't recommend this place enough for the selection of drinks cocktails food ect... If Craig sees this as I hope he does he will remember us. Cheers Craig too you and the staff of The Library...we will be defo booking it again on our next visit. Thanks Col and Karen.

Went for the superbowl was not worth it. My mate ordered food on the app at about 11pm, after 2 hours it hadn't come and they had 'no record of the order' but the money had come out of his account so put it all through again on the till and had to pay twice for food that once again never came. When we went to check after about 40 minutes of the second order they told us that bar staff were meant to come and tell us that they had ran out of food but they never did so if we hadn't asked my friend wouldn't have got his refund. Still no refund for the app order so at one point we were £90 down with no food. Also got shouted at by a member of staff who wasn't working (did apologise fair play to him hope he had a lovely night) for going in the wrong smoking area when a different working member of staff had told us to 'go straight down the bottom' one door was locked and the other one was labelled as a fire exit with no immediate signage of what the smoking area was for the night (unless we properly missed it I guess) Could not hear a thing on the tellys in general and left at about 2am. Poor this time but I suppose they normally don't stay open past 11:30pm, won't be returning for any big sports events though. Normally quite nice...

Initially, good vibe about the place nice staff and a great selection of drinks. However, we ordered food, a pizza and the loaded fries 'sloppy joe'. The pizza was a flat bread with a 2" gap from the edge to the toppings, a term that I use sparingly, like the toppings! A smear of tomato sauce, the cheese looked like an afterthought along with the 6 slices of mushroom. The sloppy Joe reminded me of my favourite dish in my local in NZ, given the exchange rate, about the same price, recommend for 2 people it said..... Great I thought, it'll probably do me then. How wrong I was, disappointing doesn't even come close. A handful of not freshly cooked fries with a spoonful of the pulled beef "loading" ,again , lightly sprinkled with cheese. Needless to say I left hungry. This was all mentioned to the staff member that took the plates away when he wished he hadn't asked if everything was ok. He did apologise, and explain the food is a chain or franchise thing and new menu isn't all that, still doesn't excuse the evident lack of care or pride in the food served. Would only go back for a beer if I happened to be passing..... Definitely not for food. Frankly, you'd be better off going to Spoon's, at least you know what...

We came back to the library pub today because we enjoyed our drink and the atmosphere yesterday. Today how ever three of my company including myself stood endlessly to get served a big guy with glasses and ginger hair just left me and my company standing waiting and server two others who had just came to the bar I said to the bar man excuse me but I was here before this customer he said I am trying to get through as quick as I can I said sorry but I was actually waiting to be serverd before the last customer you served he replied rudely I WILL REPEAT MYSELF AGAIN I am getting through as quick as I can ? This very rude barman clearly had and used the wrong attitude to me my friend on his way out said to the barman he should serve customers as they que at the bar to be served the rude barman raised his voice to shouting THANK YOU COME AGAIN. We will not be returning to this bar and this big ginger barman should be taught some customer service in how to speak to customers politely rather than talk to them so rudely with no consideration. I was not rude to the bar man only said I was standing waiting quietly...
