Legends At Steps — Restaurant in England

Great little place. Our third outing since our 9mo was born so we were desperate to go somewhere that did a good steak. After a Google about this is what flagged up as the best reviewed for the reasonable prices (noticed a lot of other steak houses in the Torquay area are a fair few quid more per meal). We were greeted warmly and sat straight away, it was mid week so it was quiet, but by the time we were eating there were about 5 tables so it was a comfortable atmosphere. Did two courses from the deal on the menu, starters came very quickly, garlic mushrooms were lovely in a delicious sauce and a very generous prawn cocktail. The mains came accompanied by nice big chips for me, garlic roast potatoes for my wife sand a surprising veg medley I didn't expect but enjoyed. The steaks were perfect. Nice quality cut of meat, seasoned very well and cooked exactly how we ordered. It's been a very long time since I was this satisfied with a meal out, and much longer for a good steak. All in it was around 50 - 60 quid for 2 courses, 2 drinks and we both had a side for the steak. The Stilton sauce was so rich and flavourful and the cajun rub I had really made the steak for me.

Next time we get a night away I'd definitely come back here and I'll tell any visiting family it's first...

Came in here for my anniversary with my partner tonight. We came to Torquay for the weekend to get away. Food looked nice on google however when we walked in we felt uncomfortable and the table was dirty. There was crumbs and wax over the napkins and cutlery that were already on the table in front of us, the wine glasses were dusty and all in all it wasn’t clean. There was also wax stains all over the menus that we were given and the drinks menu was very bad quality and hard to read. This made us change our minds about eating in here especially because it was our anniversary and we wanted it to be special. After telling the lady we was going to go somewhere else she then proceeded to snatch the menus off our tables and say well okay I’ve just turned away customers for you, this was very rude considering there was only two of us and we were the only customers in there. I would avoid this place at all costs. We are from London and we are used to a very high standard of customer service and she was clearly just annoyed because we were probably going to be her only customers of the night. The food was only average. The steak I had was wonderful with their sauce, highlight of the meal, cooked rare as I like it. My partner's steak came rare as well but she'd ordered it medium-well done. The chips are actually potato wedges and the potato gratin could of been seasoned better and crispier. The garlic mushrooms, although nice could have had a thicker sauce and slightly more garlic. An average meal which had some good bits, but expected a bit more for the price. Drink was warm, you'd expect cans to be kept in the fridge. Con of the evening was a family that were noisy, kept going out for smoking and had kids which affected the atmosphere but you can't blame the restaurant for that (would've been nice to sit away on the other...
