Me (female) and 2 female friends came in tonight (a Friday night) and paid £5 entry. As women often do, we went straight into a toilet cubicle, so we could chat and act as emotional support as one of my friends needed the toilet, as close women often do. As we were in the cubicle, we heard several knocks on the door. I responded, that we would need a few moments before we could open the door, to save my friend’s dignity (as she was on the toilet). The moment we opened the door and revealed there were 3 of us in one cubicle we were escorted out of the bar, and told we were without redemption of re entry, due to policy. After discussion with security, after them stating it was “simply policy” that once discovering there was more than one person present in a toilet cubicle, they would be removed without refund from the premises (although we were happy to review any cctv and recieve any drug tests available). One particular individual (who had overheard the whole predicament and conversation) informed us that we would infact be eligible for free entry in future, but could not recieve a refund for this night. No picture was taken, and besides word of mouth there was no evidence for this “free entry” on future. As university students home for only a few weeks over the holiday, this “promise” felt incredibly weak and inadequate for the fact we had paid £5 each for entry, only to be shortly informed that we must leave the premises for something we were unaware was the bars policy, as we are unlikely to be available to return in what is deemed the security staffs appropriate memory, what I feel to be only a few days or perhaps weeks (having worked similarly busy hospitality roles previously). I was unfortunately disappointed in both how the staff and management responded to a misunderstanding in policy, and the lack of respect...
Read moreWould not recommend this bar to anyone coming from afar for the Torquay experience. Firstly, it’s cash payment to get in? With no cash points close by this was very difficult. Once the mission to get cash, even though we try to avoid this during covid times, we sat down to order our drinks. When ordering our drinks, we had to order through an app and pay by card which makes no sense when it is cash on the door. As a group of 5, we ordered cocktails ( 2 each so we did expect a little wait) however, 45 mins late is not acceptable considering there were 6 people behind the bar. When paying to get into a bar, and again during covid times, you expect the toilets and cleanliness to be a high priority, however, this was not the case. Please see pictures attached!! We experienced even more upset when the manager threatened to remove us from the premises (after apparently numerous warnings which were actually previously directed at another table and not our table). We took this opportunity to politely voice our concerns about the wait for drinks and the toilet facilities but this was met with hostility. The manager refused to take ownership and blamed it on being ‘under staffed’ and that their focus is getting drinks out and not maintaining cleanliness in the toilets. Knowing our concerns were not being taken seriously, we decided to leave...
Read moreSo I went here specifically for a cocktail called the 'Greenway Ferry' which was birthed at SOHO. It was the afternoon of my 30th birthday, so I deserved a treat for making it 3 decades in life.
I asked if they still served the Greenway ferry, and the barman said yes. He then served me a 'Long Island Iced Tea'. So I pointed out that the Greenway ferry had a bluish colour to it last time I checked. The barman said that it was a long island iced tea. So I said I ordered a Greenway ferry. He said that he thought I'd said 'does the company still own the Greenway ferry compnay' and blamed it on the music being too loud. There was only 2 other customers in there. There was no need for the music to be that loud.
I settled for a 'Pino Colada' (which was served in a cup made to look like a coconut shell, and a triangle of pineapple that looked as though it had been there for days). So I left after that drink. Three disspointments out of three possible things that people go to cocktail lounges for. The drinks menu, the atmosphere, and the service. Poor,...
