Tried to attend for lunch today. On entering there was quite a nasty stale smell. Sort of a “beer soaked carpet from the night before” kind of smell.
There was one chap at the bar, and other than that we were the only ones in there. A few others came in while we were there. The decor was pleasant but the chairs were uncomfortable and the first table very wobbly, so we switched tables. Second was fine.
I went to the bar to order food and drinks for the 4 of us.
The Pepsi tasted odd, and the lemonade was flat. I suggested the gas might need changing, and was met with a quite grumpy reply. The lady went to change the gas but the drinks were exactly the same 2nd time round and no sympathy given or apology when I tried to show her that the drinks were still flat. She seemed completely uninterested.
Tried to order food at the same time as these getting these drinks. So many things out of stock, it became very difficult to order. I tried to make light of it by saying something like, “oh, I’m not doing very well here am I?” but got the reply of “well what do you expect on a Monday lunch time after a busy weekend, I’ve got more red lights than green on the till!” So at this point I decided not to waste anymore of our time. So we just asked if we could leave, and left the drinks, and went.
I get that sometimes pubs run out of things and sometimes the gas needs changing. But the lady’s attitude was very poor. Trying to convince me the drinks were fine and refusing to change them until I had to ask several times. Then acting like their lack of stock was my fault for daring to try to eat out on a Monday! No thanks.
I think others must have had quite a different experience here to us based on the reviews. We went because of the good reviews, but it was a waste of time. Instead we traveled down the road to the Dun Cow, which was really lovely. So my advice is to avoid this place and go there instead! Or at least avoid Mondays at...
Read moreAwful service!
It’s amazing how quickly this establishment has gone down hill. The staff are rude and obnoxious (especially the young blonde lady!).
They do not want to help or serve drinks. Instead they are quite prepared to have an argument.
Sometimes they serve food and sometimes they don’t. It depends what mood they are in! On this basis it’s very difficult to recommend this place to friends and family.
On one occasion when they refused to take a food order we asked if they could serve ice cream? The blonde lady yelled “WHAT DO YOU THINK ICE CREAM IS???!!). Very embarrassing!
On another occasion we ordered drinks from the QR code outside. 20 minutes later I walked in and saw a couple of drinks which looked liked ours. When asking another lady behind the bar if these were ours? Guess who rocks up? You guessed it - little miss angry! “NO, NO, YOU HAVE TO.COLLECT YOUR DRINKS”. I replied, “ok no problem, it doesn’t say that when I ordered? She replies “What do you expect with 2 people working??” I walked out and she’s muttering under her breath and talking about me behind my back.
If you want to be yelled at, treated like a criminal, or enjoy appalling service then this is the pub for you!
If you’re sane and like to be treated like a human being, then I recommend The Builders pub opposite. Far more personable and helpful team there!
Avoid the Legh Arms!!

Read moreThis pub has so much potential but is being let down by lack of care from the staff and owners. I took my children there after school one day and was waiting at the bar with them both for 20 minutes - only to have a man (presume a regular) push in front of the whole queue and get served before everyone else. The lady behind the bar didn't even question it.
Then as I was walking back to the garden, a dog escaped from behind the bar - turns out its the owners / managers dog - and came flying at my 2 year old, he was sent flying to the floor and was screaming - he loves dogs so hopefully no lasting trauma - but no apology.
The staff refused to serve food outside for some reason which is hard when you are on your own with 2 children who just want to eat and play. When we did manage to get ice cream the portion was (no joke) the size of a teaspoon and had melted. Again no acknowledgment or apology - it was so bad my little girl cried and we left to go elsewhere!!
It feel like this place is surviving off the fact it has outdoor space which is great for families but is actually being left to ruin with no care. Little things like cut the grass, clear the rubbish outside and open the outside bar, and care for your customers would go a...
