Tucked beneath the streets of Knutsford lies a hidden gem of spice and soul, an Indian restaurant that doesn’t shout with glitz but sings with flavour. I’ve dined far and wide across the UK, yet this spot lingers in memory like a favourite melody.
Forget the basement setting and the old-school decor. When the food hits like this, who needs dollar candles or walls of fairy lights? The garlic rice alone should come with a passport stamp as it’s now firmly in my top three “dishes worth flying for.” Just one spoonful feels like being wrapped in a velvet cloak of garlic love, while delicate spices whisper lullabies in the background. It doesn’t just feed you, it romances you.
The dish was suggested by none other than Mr. Khan, the restaurant’s heart and soul, and a dead ringer for Shah Rukh Khan himself. Charming, attentive, and with a sixth sense for timing, he made sure our courses arrived in a seamless rhythm, no overlap, no rush, just a graceful culinary dance. Maybe we caught him on a quiet shift, but his presence made the meal sparkle.
If I must find a flaw (and I must), the lamb in the Mint Zeera leaned a little too far into toughness, more chew than melt. A bit more fat, and it would’ve sung in harmony with the rest.
Still, from first bite to final sip, the experience was a delight. Just don’t forget to order a crisp pint of Cobra, because what’s a feast without a...
Read moreMy favourite local Indian – possibly the best I've ever had. After trying several nearby I've settled on this as my preferred choice. They have a decent menu, the usual staples and plenty of more unique choices. The price is very competitive – but most importantly the TASTE is excellent. We often order vindaloo... We like it hot, but it has to have flavour, and in my opinion this is a good test of the quality of an Indian restaurant. Many places just use the same sauce as Madras but add extra chili... In fact vindaloo should be quite sour (vin = vinegar), but balancing this with the spicing is also key. Shamoli do this very well. I also like the fact that they use decent quality vegetables – we often order 1 meat dish and several vegetarian dishes / sides. Lesser Indians would use really boring vegetables, but Shamoli keep it interesting... Fresh flavours, rich tasty sauces. Mmm making myself hungry now. Finally, very friendly staff. If you're looking for a local Indian restaurant please give them a try. Free parking at the back in the evenings. Winner, winner,...
Read moreThis was once our first choice indian restaurant... never again! the place is going down hill. After a visit not so long back we was spoken down to by the owner and not at all to be made welcome, after months of staying away we decided to give it another go. Well first visit nice food but nothing more and nothing less... A few days ago we was very much disappointed with the meal and when I asked was there a different chef I was told it doesn't matter what chef is on its all prepared the same way and there's nothing wrong. WELL sorry but there's a massive difference in food quality, and the place is not so clean anymore. Take a look around more so around your staircase and walls, smells dirty and toilets stink!! when asked for the bill I really wanted to refuse to pay full amount but decided not to and paid in full plus a big tip to the small guy who's there and has been for a long time who looked like he knows there's something just not right with the place now. Unfortunately we won't...
