4 of us came in to just have a few drinks before cinema and some of us are from different countries so we don’t carry a passport. When ask to provide a form of identification we handed out our national id cards and were refused service because only passports and driver’s licenses are accepted. As the law cites, “any proof of age cards bearing the PASS hologram“ should be accepted. The employees either have no idea about their own laws, or were being ignorant on purpose… The place was empty. We left and went to Nando’s next door for 4 lovely drinks. Edit: Since I can’t reply to your response, I’ll just say it like this. We all had our cards with us and we all wanted to show a valid identification card. When the first one was showed, the employees just refused them because they were not passports or driver’s licenses. Not everyone walks around with a passport. Not everyone has a drivers licence. Not everyone is from this country. The fact that they’re also lying about it just makes us sure it was on purpose.

Went in with my wife, who showed her valid Polish national ID, only to be told they don’t accept it as proof of ID. This felt borderline xenophobic especially considering, as shown in the official documentation (see attached), EU national IDs are accepted in the UK. We were treated with suspicion instead of respect, and no apology was given even when we pointed out they were wrong. Disappointing and unwelcoming experience. Would not recommend. EDIT: The business has replied stating that some of the people accompanying my wife showed an ID on "their phone", which is an absolute lie. Every single member of the party had a physical ID from either Poland or Portugal, which counts as member of the EU. I'd love to hear a response from the business, aknowleding the fact that they just stated false information. I'd also love to hear the real reason why these 4 PHYSICAL ID's were rejected. A formal complaint will be filed. Discrimination at its best. Poor acknowledgment and finally, lying on the internet. Incredible

Note - Offered complimentary dessert - refused. Offered complimentary drinks - refused. I did get partial refund but not ALL the food. Took my sister for a meal on a slow Monday afternoon. Ordered beef lasagne and when it arrived it wasn't hot but not cold. Sadly the burnt toast with garlic [identifying as garlic bread] should never have left the kitchen. Also my sister's chips had been left under the warmer for the approx hour it took to serve the meals {probably the delay was caused by the necessity of slaughtering the beef and catching the fish prior to cooking....maybe?}. If you check my previous reviews where service & quality are excellent they get the recognition and therefore where service or quality fails should it not receive it's criticism? Would I return to eat - no. No criticism on bar/waiting staff they were understanding and pleasant BUT that food should never have left the kitchen.

I recently visited Local Hero with three friends, hoping for a relaxed evening out. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but welcoming. Two of my friends presented valid EU national ID cards—official documents with holograms that are fully acceptable forms of identification under UK law, as confirmed by government guidelines and which is stated on Greene kings website. However, the bartender refused to serve them, insisting that only driving licences or passports were acceptable. This is simply incorrect and suggests a worrying lack of understanding of the Challenge 25 policy and the legal standards for ID verification.

The staff were blunt, dismissive, and noticeably unwelcoming throughout our brief time there. Despite the pub being nearly empty, we were made to feel like a burden rather than valued customers. The whole situation left us feeling targeted and deeply uncomfortable. It was embarrassing to witness staff enforcing incorrect policies and handling the situation so poorly. It felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a deliberate attempt to exclude—something that raises serious questions about their approach to customer service and equality.

I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and concerned. A bit of training on legal ID requirements and basic hospitality would go a long way for the staff at Local Hero. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on our experience. If i could give this place 0 star...

Came in on Sunday for food with friends, very disappointed to find a limited menu so i went on to the Facebook page to see if it was advertised and we had missed it and nothing on there was posted. Reluctantly we ordered food from the limited menu of burgers and chicken strips. We didn't have to wait long for food as it came quite quickly but as you can imagine we were quite surprised when it was served on a cardboard tray! If we wanted a burger on cardboard we'd have gone to McDonald's next door! Not at all what you'd expect from a pub/restaurant. Shockingly disappointed, which is a shame as the food that we ordered was very nice but I prefer to choose from a menu as advertised and eat it from a plate. This also wasn't ideal for a vegetarian who obviously doesn't eat beef burgers, chicken burgers or chicken strips so he ended up going elsewhere for food. We were regular customers when Joe was manager, we haven't managed to come in as much since he's left and definitely won't be returning if these are the changes the current manager is making. Although I'm sure we aren't the only ones leaving feeling like this yesterday. If the manager can't be bothered to let his customers know there's changes to menus with no advertising, no notice just a quick mention when you sit at the table, no vegetarian options and cardboard trays I'm sure he won't be there long.

Seeing as my review keeps getting removed I thought...

After going for a drink after bingo at 10.15 with my daughter we sat at table 1 and proceeded to order a round of drinks using the app. After confirmation on our phones and money leaving our accounts we sat for nearly 15 mins when we looked at the bar the two girls were talking and didn't appear to have our order. We went to the bar and politely asked about our orders. We were spoken to by a very rude young girl who said we haven't got any orders, we showed her our app confirmation and she looked and said we don't even sell that drink, after asking what we could order she came back to the bar with two screwed up receipts and said nobody uses the app at this time of night and they never came through to the bar, after changing our drinks to what they did sell my daughter's were slammed down on the table and I was told they had no vanilla vodka for the cocktail I had ordered, so I then asked what they could make and then 5 mins later my jug of cocktail was slammed on the table, after a death stare I politely asked would it be possible to get another glass to which she huffed and again returned banned it down on the table and stormed off Absolutely shocking rude service and will never come into this...
