Today I wanted to watch the final of the Twenty20 world cup, with England versus the West Indies. I was told, by Lucien's themselves, that it would be on. I went there with my brother and my father. It wasn't on and there was a party going on, so I asked at the bar. I was told it wasn't a problem and which television did we want to use. Excellent, we sat in the beer garden and ordered drinks. Before long the match was well underway and others were watching it as well. All was going well, a few drinks rounds later, until a few balls from the end of the 18th over - when the television suddenly switched over to a football match involving Manchester United. Naturally we were all confused and thought it might have been a mistake - so I went to ask. No, it wasn't a mistake, the party had asked for the football to be put on and in fact had done so when they made the booking - or so I was told at that point. Myself, my brother and my father, as well as a handful of others, all left at that point.
There are a few points here. None of them good. The first is that if this was made clear by the party at the time of booking, why were we told when we turned up that it was okay to watch the cricket? Clearly Lucien's is only interested in taking money from you for as long as they can. If the party did not make it clear and Lucien's just bowed to pressure from the people at the bar, the same is true. Lucien's are only interested in where the money is. Not customer service or reputation, money.
This was the first time I had been to Lucien's. It is also my last. There is no way I will put money into an establishment that has such low opinion of their customers that they think they can just do what they like,...
Read moreThe Fever-Tree ginger ale was really good and it was lovely and cool inside as the windows on the front open right across. The down side was, though they had two beer pumps, they had no handpulled cask beers on. The blonde haired member of staff who I asked didn't even know what beer was, she just looked at me blankly with a big throbbing think bubble over her head which could quote easily have written in it "What planet are you from?" A more switched on member of staff explained that they don't have the cask beer on when it's hot. Hmmm, pubs manage OK...... The other main downpoint was what I was served, which was described as: "Falafel, a flour tortilla packed full with chickpea and onion falafel, red onion and lettuce, drizzled in mayonnaise." Harrumph!!! Packed full??! Quelle larf. It was very dry as there was no mayonnaise drizzled on it, and I cannot for the life of me see what part of a slice of tomato, a bit of shredded lettuce, red onion and half a crumbled falafel constitutes as packed full..... The photographs were taken before I had eaten any of it. I had just cut them open as they didn't seem that full. One wrap had half a crumbled falafel in and the other had one in. Underwhelming, unimpressed and at 5p short of 9 quid, seriously, seriously overpriced. I had paid an additional £2.95 for a side of onion rings and the chips that came with it were ok as was the coleslaw. Not a place I would revisit as it was an overpriced and meagre tortilla that was all wrap,...
Read moreWe have visited Lucienâs bar on 2 occasions when visiting Hornsea and on both occasions we have experienced issues with our food order. The first time we ordered 3 small plates and they brought different to what we ordered but in all fairness they changed them quickly. The second time we order food we ordered a sharing board, pizza and Caesar salad. The sharing board came without the olives and sun-dried tomatoes and we only got 2 sets of knives and forks for 4 of us. We brought this to the attention of the young lad that served us and his reply was the chef forgot to put the olives and sun-dried tomatoes on the board and we have run out of clean cutlery. We just laughed it off and got on with it. We are quite laid back but when we asked for a knife and fork for the Caesar salad to be told there was no cutlery available this wasnât acceptable, who eats a salad without cutlery đ photo of the sharing board...
