I thought the young members of staff were polite but the so called young manageress was patronising, lied about me being rude to the young members of staff. This came about after I stated I was not impressed with the quality of the food. The high prices did not include mushy peas so we had to pay extra then they were tasteless. The chips tasted warmed up, the fish was more batter than fish. I could not eat my meal & neither could another one with me. The gravy literally held a fork up straight in it... far too thick. The sausage was cheap type, like the bread they brought out well before the meal. The so called manageress did her best to try & wind me up but I was not going to rise to her patronising & pathetic attempts to do that. She admitted to wanting to wind me up saying oh yes please!! She said I've took the price of the gravy off the bill, oh & the drinks but hadn't so when I addressed this with her, she threatened me with her boss & the police, to which I said "oh yes let's get this sorted, especially you accusing me of been rude to the young staff". She asked we moved away from the till area, so we did. Next a guy from the kitchen came over apologised & said he'd spoken to the boss & the boss had said for us not to pay for our meals but I said I would pay a discounted price, but he said no its ok & said the girl had been spoken too for her behaviour towards me. I will never give this place my custom ever again !!
Note to the so called manageress: Never accuse customer's of something they have not done or make those young girls so petrified they dare not stand up to you..... it's called...
Read moreThis was our visit to Whitby, and had heard that Mister Chips was well worth a visit if going. They have 2 outlets, the main one is on the Abbey side of the bridge, but we chose this one by the harbour. We decided to eat in the restaurant, rather than get a takeaway due to the weather. The tables were well spaced, and everything looked very clean & tidy. The waitress was very polite and friendly, and in all we only waited about 5-10 minutes for our food to arrive at the table. We'd ordered the large cod & chips, battered sausage & chips, and drinks. Considering the prices were a bit on the high side compared to some of the other places, I was a bit surprised to see it didn't include mushy peas, so had to order those separately. The chips were very nice, not greasy, fluffy inside, but not the best I've had. However, the Cod was absolutely delicious, in lovely golden crispy batter, not at all greasy, and the fish was soft, melt in the mouth, and was large as ordered. The battered sausage was equally well cooked, and quite tasty. Overall, I think the food & service was excellent, so would definitely eat here again. It's a good location too with views of the harbour and abbey, albeit partly obstructed by some funfair rides, and I felt just a bit expensive to be making mushy...
Read moreOne of the worst fish and chips I've ever had, and also one of the most expensive. Fish (a large) was thin, over cooked, and had bland, greasy batter. Chips were mushy and greasy and tasted reheated (or had been kept warm for some time). The bread that we had served was put on the plate before the food was ready, so by the time it was served it was stale and broke apart when attempting to butter it - plus the fact it was cheapest supermarket own bread you can possibly buy. The only decent part of the meal was the mushy peas & curry sauce, which we needed to drown the fish and chips to make them edible. Service was prompt and friendly by the young girls that were working here who were very polite and observant (even if they did plate up bread before the fish was even in the fryer so it went stale). I have eaten at the nearby Quayside on a later date and our meals ended up costing less than at Mister Chips and the quality was night and day. You cannot charge what you do and serve the sub standard food that you do and expect to get returning customers - even the decent portion sizes aren't a...
