I have had takeaways from here previously with no issues As it was a little chilly we decided to eat in. Unfortunately it was not an enjoyable experience. We were shown to a table not far from the door which kept being left open and the draft was so cold! (And I don’t normally feel the cold) We asked to move and was told where to go and table number but not shown and tables weren’t numbered! Another couple also asked to move about 5 minutes after us. It was a while before they took the order and advertised as having Guinness, they didn’t have any. Once ordered it took quite sometime before the food arrived. Firstly with the manager going to the first table we sat at, wondering round with our plates and us having to call him over to say it’s ours when we had advised him of our move, on putting the plates down he asked if we wanted sauce, my partner asked for tomato sauce. He never came back and it took an age to get the staffs attention for some with my partner having to leave the table and ask for it. The same happened with the drinks. Visually it looked fine. On eating it the underneath was very greasy and we both removed all the batter putting it on the side plate. The staff made nothing of this at all. There appeared to be quite a few staff busy doing nothing! Was not impressed at all and will not be returning! Not even for a takeaway. The cost was £48.60 for two Fish and chips twice a larger and a tea This was off the...
Read moreAbsolutely appalling customer service.
My elderly father recently visited Whitby. Since recently losing my Mam he decided on a nostalgic meal of fish and chips, as him and my mam would eat there due to the gluten free options. A bittersweet experience.
It was a Monday afternoon, footfall was steady, no queues or bustling crowds. Despite this, Dad was ushered into a small secluded area, where he sat alone. No other customers in this area, just empty tables.
When he asked to be moved into the main area, he was told " we can't waste a larger table on a single diner". As a solo diner he just wanted to dine around other people and enjoy the atmosphere. Instead he rushed down his meal, feeling unwelcome and irrelevant.
As a business priding themselves on being a family enterprise I am frankly stunned that a polite elderly man was treated with such disrespect.
Does a lone diner not spend enough to warrant the treatment of a large group wracking up a fat bill? Ageist maybe? Or just ignorant and rude staff members?
This was my Dad's first visit since losing my Mam. I appreciate staff would be unaware of this, that said, any front of house or floor staff should always make customers needs a priority. We never know what's happening in another's life. Basic good manners should ensure the best experience whilst dining in your restaurant.
I emailed the restaurant in May at the time of the visit. I am still...
Read moreI only gave a one star as the option for no stars isn't available! No atmosphere and place was almost empty at 7pm. Asked if the apparently hand made fishcakes contained shellfish, the young lady had to go and ask, the confused debate in the kitchen could be heard and nobody seemed sure. Eventually another woman came to inform us that they were just fried in the same oil as scampi so best not to order them! She didn't really listen when partner tried to explain it was ok as it was an intolerance not an allergy. She ended up ordering sausage and chips (no sauce or peas) for over £15. I ordered the haddock that came with peas, bread and butter and a small pot of tea. The fish was definitely not fresh or cooked to order and the batter was greasy. ( I suspect it was just taken from the takeaway counter unless fish fries faster in their kitchen than anywhere else in the world). The peas arrived a few minutes after the main and Eventually 1 slice of bread appeared 10 minutes after starting to eat, I was practically finished as it was largely inedible. Avoid this place, it's over priced and there are lots of places nearby that do...
