What a unique and fabulous place this is! We hired the function room(s) for a post-Christmas, open mic, musical evening and just as on our previous visit, we were presented with the most wonderful hospitality. The whole place has a nice, warm and cosy feel, festooned with artefacts, antiques and bespoke furniture. The low lighting and Christmas decorations also added to the festive mood. It worked perfectly for our get-together with family and friends. The bar has a great choice of ales, most of which you will not find anywhere else close by, which was also a bonus - and very nice they were too!! Mr Grundy's bar also has an open fire which adds further warmth to the room and is visually very attractive. The on-site pizza kitchen was well used during the evening and a very welcome facility, especially for some of the younger members! Our room continued the olde worlde, quirky feel with a very comfy bed and was very clean also. Now for the breakfast......this was everything that you need after a lengthy evening of partying! Beautifully presented, plenty of it and served with a friendly smile. It was ace! I liked the traditional teapots too. Highly recommended and will...
Read moreThis used to be a fantastic place to eat. The last two years it has continually gone down hill both in customer service and catering.
Now the food is absolutely terrible and shocking service from some rude argumentative blond woman. No idea who she was as she never introduced herself. No customer service whatsoever.
We just came back from having three meals there, to be honest it was hard to say what one was the worst! The Chips were very nice the rest I don’t think my dog would have ate it!
When I complained nicely I went and sat down an waited for someone to explain and maybe apologise for the terrible food. But you guessed I’d still be sitting there waiting if I hadn’t gone to ask why the food was so bad.
The same blond woman went on to blame a young barman about him not relaying a message. However I explained if he’d been trained to do that then he most likely would have.
I wouldn’t have written this review if it hadn’t been for the blond woman who blamed everything and anyone instead of accepting that the food was terrible.
Chips were good and I did after a wait get my money back
Would not advise anyone...

First visit, it's the other side of the city for us so never bothered to visit before.
The pub is actually in the back of The Georgian House Hotel built in 1756, it resembles a country house, although it seems to have seen better days if I'm honest.
The pub brews it's own beers, which after trying a few over the years I've got to admit I'm not a fan of.
Beers on the bar were Mr Grundy's and a couple of guest casks alongside keg beers and lager, spirits, wine, soft drinks etc are also available.
Inside is interesting with lots of unusual decor, but it feels cluttered, outside is quite nice with real grass and trees, I imagine it's be excellent in summer.
Nice enough, but I don't think I'll be back, there's just...
