Very poor service and the chap on the counter was terrible. Arrived at the restaurant at 19.55. Was attended for an order at 20.00. Had made an order for plain poppadums and some main dishes along with water and no ice in them. Requested if the poppadums could be sent before. They were brought to the table at 20.15. Finally mains were brought to the table at 20.45 after a long wait and the restaurant was not even that busy. Food was average but will not complain too much about it. The bill was brought and against the poppadums it mentioned 1.65£ where as the menu stated as 0.75£. Slight difference does not make you scream, but on asking the same person why is there a difference in price he mentioned that it includes the price for Chutney. Very surprised that I was not even told about or asked at the time of the order. I asked him to show where it says extra cost and he showed the pricing and then tells me that normally customers ask for Chutney as well so it was added on the list. Informed that this is the first restaurant that I have visited that charges for Chutney and told I have been to several Indian Bangladeshi and Pakistani restaurants and not one has a charge for Chutneys. The chap had the rude attitude of saying I am being funny and it is not true according to him. I volunteered to take him out to any Indian or Asian restaurant he wishes and he can see for himself about the Chutney. He then said that munchies has 17 restaurants and they charge. Told him that it could be their restaurant policy and that is fine but should not blatantly say that all restaurants charge and be argumentative and ignorant. I paid the bill which he altered however there was a difference in what he showed on the menu and what was out on paper. Paying extra is not a problem but the attitude and no sense of customer relations and acceptance of a mistake that he did not even mention about it earlier is...
Read moreThe restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and provides a good setting for casual dining, with friendly and attentive service that enhances the dining experience. However, there are some noticeable areas for improvement, particularly regarding food quality.
During our visit, we ordered the Paneer Tikka and Chicken Tikka, expecting freshly prepared tandoori dishes with authentic flavors. Unfortunately, both dishes seemed to lack the freshness associated with traditional tandoori cooking. The texture and taste suggested they might not have been freshly cooked but instead pre-prepared and reheated, which took away from the expected quality. Additionally, the dishes contained an excessive amount of artificial red coloring, which not only impacted presentation but also raised concerns about the ingredients used.
The Paneer Mutter was also underwhelming; it lacked seasoning and had a bland flavor, missing the rich, layered spices typically found in this dish. For an establishment representing Indian cuisine, enhancing the authenticity and freshness of the dishes would help better showcase the vibrant flavors that Indian food is known for.
With a few adjustments in food preparation practices, focusing on freshly cooked dishes and balanced seasoning, this restaurant has the potential to provide a much more authentic and enjoyable Indian...
Read moreOverall a nice restaurant but may not be our top choice.
We visited for a large family meal. The food was okay and we did finish most of it, but we didn't feel the food blew us away.
As a big vegetarian group we ordered a variety of vegetable curries including Jalfrezi, Naga, Biryani, Tadka Dal, Saag Paneer, Mushroom Bhaji and Korma. All accompanied by Garlic and Plain Naans.
Each dish did have a specific flavour but portions could have been a bit bigger (compared to other Indian restaurants in the Aylesbury area).
We also felt some of the hotter dishes (spicy ones) seemingly had red food colouring and used more chilli powder rather than fresh chillis for heat. Dishes like the Korma felt a bit thick in consistency.
One thing worth recommending is the Naans. They were delicious and really well made. Garlic Naan especially is worth a try.
As Indians maybe the food isn't tailored for our taste (although at request dishes can be made 'desi' style) which we did find more authentic.
In summary, not a bad option for an Indian meal but with plenty of other options around it may have tougher competition (try a takeaway from Elm Farm Tandoori or a meal out at Cafe Zeera in Wing for stronger more defined flavours in a similar laid...
