Olive Tree — Restaurant in England

Exceptionally good food (fish special: baked sea bass in a spicy (aromatic not hot) salsa) perfectly cooked. However, intended to have the lunch special (£20 for two courses), but ran out of time - and patience - arrived at 12.30, left at 2.15. The delay between my wife's starter and our mains was nearly an hour, so no pud for me! When I questioned the waitress about the delay, she had forgotten to put the main order through to the kitchen. But why when they realised a mistake had been made didn't they tell us and offer some nibbles to keep us going? Our order wasn't the only one fouled up, another pair of dinners sent their mains back as they hadn't had their starters! The worse thing is I felt they didn't care, an insincere apology, boardering on the sarcastic "at least the food was good" was all that was offered when leaving. A meal out is an experience, and, despite the quality of the food, this wasn't an enjoyable one. I hope that for the sake of the kitchen, they sort out the front of...

Food is great. Not too happy with the seating. Table was booked for two. We were given a table just inside the door. Advised only table available, then people who had not booked who were passing trade were offered tables upstairs. The door was opened multiple times whilst we ate our meal, the door does not shut properly or people don’t close it. It spoilt a birthday lunch. We mentioned to a member of staff how cold it was and was advised that it was an old building and nothing to be done. You cannot guarantee which table you get. No apology about how cold it was sitting and getting cold. Maybe put a spring on the door to close it, put a note on the door to ask people to close the door upon leaving. We will not come back as we were frozen. I recommend anyone booking a table do not sit at the table inside the door or the one in the middle for two people. If it’s cold outside you will get cold! I think the Olive Tree in Bridport is probably the best restaurant I’ve ever dined in. I’ve dined there several times over the last few years and have always enjoyed the food. It’s consistently of a very high quality and always extremely tasty. My most recent visit was the first time I have experienced the lunchtime Spectacular which I found an absolute delight and would highly recommend. There is always a crowd of at least eight of us that dine together and the service has always been first class and very professionally managed so never any dishes arriving late or cool. My daughter is vegan and gluten free and has always been very well catered for. I have tried various options on the menu over the years and have always been very happy with my dining experience. The prices are very reasonable for the standard of cuisine served at the Olive Tree and I would highly recommend it if you fancy a tasty treat...
