Depends what you're used to. I was disappointed. 3 stars is generous considering the very high prices.
Prawn puri starter (nearly 8 quid!) had largeish prawns without any flavour.. a bit like when they're hurriedly defrosted under a running hot tap. The sauce was SWEET AND SUGARY. The dhal masala was a good portion, a bit spicy for this type of dish but worst of all SWEET AND SUGARY. What is going on here? I'm used to too much salt but not sugar.
I also had a peshwari naan (even a plain naan is around 4 quid!! No joke). It was doughy and mushy. No raisins or almonds inside, which is what id expect at the price.
Aubergine bhaji was very nicely cooked. It just didn't really have any extra flavouring.
Seemed to be a lot of waiting staff. Doing their best but maybe shouldn't be expected to know what a mango lassi was. Mum couldn't get said lassi although we did later see it on the pudding menu!
Very expensive and thoroughly underwhelming food. Still, what choice do you have in Bridport?
Like many places, you likely have to find the best thing to order for the best price/quality of dish.
But honestly, 4 quid for a mushy naan?! This deffo ain't Dishoom. Oh, and Mum ordered some poppadoms and they CHARGED FOR THE PICKLES! -Which didn't even include pickle.. just onion/mint sauce/mango chutney. For the charge I would expect lime AND plum pickle and fresh mint sauce would be nice.
I'm obvs expecting too much but the prices are at a big premium so why shouldn't I get premium quality curry?
Maybe they spent all their money on the loos which look like they belong in a Mayfair knocking shop.
Additional waffle: I'm no expert but I like a curry and have sampled many -in Bradford, Birmingham, Leicester plus Tooting and Southall in London.
I understand there's a different racial demographic in the area but it was odd going to a full curry house without a brown face in sight. I wonder if the kitchen...
Read moreWe were thrilled to get a table on a busy friday night without booking and the staff couldn't have been lovelier and more welcoming. Unfortunately though to our disappointment our chosen dishes really lacked flavour and seasoning. So much so that we asked for some salt which I would never normally do, particularly in a good Indian restaurant. The Rajasthani Lamb wasn't as tender as it probably should have been (slightly chewy rather than soft and melting) but more importantly, what struck us was that there wasn't any real spicing we could discern. I don't mean heat, i mean spices such as cumin, mustard seed etc. just a very bland taste. The spinach bhaji while plentiful (all portions were generous) again, had no real flavour and rather than being buttery it was slightly water logged and the onions seemed to be boiled rather than melting and caramelised. Same for the tarka dahl which again just didn't have any flavour despite being suffused with garlic. Adding salt did solve that a bit. Naan bread was super fresh and absolutely delicious though. Really sorry we didn't choose the right thing as the flavours coming from other tables where dishes were sizzling smelled amazing. Would definitely return to try other dishes given the reputation of this establishment but i wonder if it was just an off day for the chef who hadn’t tasted the food being made? Hope it was just that as I would love to enjoy the food so well reviewed by...
Read moreBEWARE WHILST PAYING BY CARD!!! I order some food from these people and payed by my debit card, for some reason the transaction was 'referred' the cancelled. I was then told that they had a problem with their machine and that they had accidentally credited my account with the cost of my meal!! I thought this was very strange, but stranger still when they keyed my transaction again I was told I'd have to pay DOUBLE!. I went a head after being promised that the 'credit' would go into my account the same day as they would be taking the double transaction. Needless to say that the credit never arrived, but naturally the double transaction left my account! Luckily when having my food delivered I insisted on receipts. When I phoned the restaurant I was told I'd have to photocopy the receipts and send them to the manager. He was unprepared to look at his transactions to help me. 1 month later he finally agreed that there was a mistake and was told to phone back on Sunday as he was very busy in the restaurant! I wouldn't be sure how to describe this, but theft/fraud certainly springs to mind. After finally having my refund keyed by the manager, there was no apology, he didn't seem to care and no offer of any payments of redress for the inconvenience. To summarise, USE CASH or at last GET A RECEIPT! it's such a shame as the food was actually...
