The experience started off on a good foot. Who we assumed was the duty manager greeted us (we later learned his name was Dominic). We had a bit of banter and he showed us to our seat. We had a voucher for free Prosecco and called a very helpful waiter over to check it for us (Aman). Not 5 minutes later we saw the same ‘duty manager’ who greeted us, very aggressively scolding the waiter for talking to us as we were not seated in the waiter’s allocated ‘area’. The ‘duty manager’ saw our disapproving glances as he walked past and we explained to him that the waiter was only doing what we asked him to, but he was having none of it. As we waited for our food the ‘duty manager’ sat with a couple eating dinner opposite us for a good 20 minutes. (We felt sorry for them and practiced our responses for if he tried to do the same to us) Our food came out promptly and we tucked in to a very watery bolognese and a cardboard pizza with undercooked mushrooms. As I glanced to my left the ‘duty manager’ had already hounded another couple and was harassing them, in between micro managing the wait staff and the chefs. The waitress Anastasia was very kind and helpful when she noticed I hadn’t even finished half of my pizza and she offered us a drink which we very much appreciated. We finished our drinks whilst watching the ‘duty manager’ reject a new customer to resume talking to the couple from before. When Anastasia walked past, he gestured to her to wait on the new customer so that he could continue harassing the unfortunate couple. Bottom line: Food was disappointing. The ‘duty manager’ was FAR too big for his boots but the Prosecco went down a treat. 2 stars, one for Anastasia and...
Read moreGenerally miserable staff (apart from 1 lady, altho we only saw her for about 90 seconds before she disappeared never to return) and utterly lacking in options for dairy-free or vegans - their allergen menu states that even the house fries have dairy in them :0 Customer service and communication was poor, with no attempt to keep us updated on why our drinks were delayed or what the chef had said about the ingredients of their meatballs (the waitress seemed surprised to hear there might be sections of society who DO care whether the meat is pork or beef, considering it's not stated anywhere on any of the menus..) until the meal arrived without them. Our drinks arrived after our meal too, in spite of being sat on the bar ready for some while and even then they weren't right but no apology, just an implication that my husband had ordered his drink wrong (altho interestingly we have no problems ordering the incredibly complex 'lemonade & blackcurrant' elsewhere). No effort to build rapport with us as customers even though we were dining with two small children in Christmas get-up, nor to create any atmosphere other than bad feeling when they sullenly delivered food or blankly answered our requests. Food was barely average so next time we'll take our money next door to nandos or round the corner to either ASK or Pizza Express for a much friendlier service and better food, or a little further out to Brooklyn Pizza or Zapatos for really great vegan/dairy-free options that are both easy on the pocket and enjoyably...
Read moreIt was a few months ago that I went there. But I’ve had a lot going on. So just now I’ve got to write this review. But if you’re a person of colour just don’t go here. Me and my mother went here for lunch. The lady serving us was very rude for no reason. Her energy was so off right from the start she didn’t welcome us in she just plonked us down on the table. She didn’t greet us with no smile she didn’t make conversation with us. She didn’t even. Ask us how our food was she seemed very angry with us for no apparent reason. I’ve never experienced this before at this place they have always treated us very well. But not on this day so it was clear to us that we never did anything wrong. When calling to complain about this of course she was the one who answered the phone and when explaining what had happened realised it was her I was speaking with on the phone. When asking if I could then talk with a manager she said she was the manger. Well if this is how a manager treats people that’s even more disgusting to know you’re a manager that behaves in this manner. On top of that she’s still bold and brave enough to have attitude on top of that. To me the only reason you you could behave in this poorly manner and treat us the way that she did was because the colour of our skin. Because we conducted ourselves in the way any other decent human being should. I will never in my life come to this restaurant again. And I don’t advise any other person of colour to do so either. Not if you like being treated...
