Restaurant @ The Imperial Torquay — Restaurant in England

I booked the Agatha Christie themed Afternoon Tea for my wife’s birthday. It was memorable as a bad experience. No signage on where to go. No front desk. No one in charge. Had to queue at the bar while staff continued to tend to bar duties to check in. After 20 minute wait finally shown to our table, which was at least reserved by the window. Served with a drink quite quickly but waited 15 more minutes for the Afternoon Tea but no actual tea to drink. After attracting staff attention tea came, but no cups to drink from. When the cups came they were stained. No tea spoons. Constant battle to attract attention of the one waitress serving. No tea spoons to serve jam and cream for scones so had to go and collect spoons from the bar. The food was at least of reasonable quality, although the scones were over-baked and dry. There was no hint of an Agetha Christie theme. The only saving grace is the amazing view of the bay. We will not...

We stayed here for our anniversary in 2020, just as places were allowed to reopen after covid, food and service then was great, and we are glad to say that nothing has changed since then, still great food...
