I think this will be the most glowing review I've ever made because the place itself is FLAWLESS!

It had everything you could possibly want from an eatery; great views, good food, attentive staff and a stunning place all round.

I shall start from the beginning - the website. Super easy to navigate, very informative, on trend, clean looking and uncluttered. I particularly liked the comments section where you could write whatever you thought would be useful for the staff at Twenty1 (and they do actually read the comments written! I had requested a table that wasn't in too much of a busy area due to small children accompanying me on this evening). The restaurant went above and beyond by sitting us upstairs, which I highly recommend sitting here as you have the views but also closest access to the toilets which are a corridor away. Again, fantastic start to our meal!

Next are the staff, we had the pleasure of being served this night by a lovely waitress who wore her hair in a plait and was so welcoming and complimentary. Nothing was too much trouble, she gave great recommendations for us to accompany the meals we ordered, great with our children and not too overbearing because after all, who wants to eat somewhere with someone constantly hovering? She nailed her job on this evening.

Thirdly the food, I've never been as blessed as I was on this occasion to see so many tantalizing dishes within my reach. There were so many choices and each looked as appetizing as the last. Our food was served promptly but still fresh and full of flavour. My compliments to the chef, I definitely did not regret what I ordered, only that I couldn't go back for more after. The only slight disappointment was in the dessert, I ordered a brownie and it just was not up to standard compared to the freshly made cheesecake or the moist sliders that I had sampled prior to tucking into my own dessert. Such a shame! But none the less it doesn't take away from the stunning starters and delectable mains we had already eaten. And just to add, the cocktails are amazing also! Such a variation, I had only sampled the berry-colada which tasted like heaven. A little alcoholic/berry/milkshake/frothy mixture served in a Tiki glass and it was good to the very last drop.

Lastly the establishment itself, located right at the front of the docks and tucked away between a multitude of competition lies Twenty1. The family friendly restaurant with a private cocktail bar on the top floor, ocean/dock views complete with the site of Torquay's large Ferris wheel which is breathtaking to see at night, this is surely a one of a kind place to be. With it's rustic fusion on trend interior, heading up the stairs to the first floor you will see glass panels on the floor that are lit by barrels and fairy lights. Heading up the stairs you'll see puns of famously written songs decorating the base to this floor, complete with a balcony to which you can take in all this beautiful city has to offer (and the doors to the balcony do close so you won't need to worry on colder days of getting chilly). Opposite the dining area on this level are the 3 toilets which are unisex and extremely clean when you take into consideration how many people must use them simultaneously. And then next to them you have the kitchen door, where the magic happens! Unfortunately I didn't get to experience the top floor so I am unable to comment but I'm sure that was just as spectacular as the rest of the venue.

So if you're in Torquay, I can't recommend Twenty1 enough, go ahead and treat yourself, your date, your family, whomever! Because you...

The drink was delightful considering the scorching weather, the ambiance was just right and the customer service at our table was inviting.

With regards to Heath and safety however, there is a lot lacking from a training and inspection standpoint. I hit my head on a cross beam while stepping down from the restroom area. I’m 6 feet tall and I was wearing a hat. I shouldn’t have to look up to see a sign that says “watch your head”; as such I was holding my head straight walking back to my seat, then I found myself on the floor holding my head with a throbbing pain after my head hit the bottom 2 inches on the concrete beam.

2 other customers saw me on the floor holding my head and enquired if I was ok. It’s not until I was there a while, dazed and my partner calling for help that staff came to check what happened. We asked for the manager to report the safety issue for taller persons in that area. He came briefly then left to get the accident log book. We waited for some time but the manager did not return.

I’m not a malicious person, however I did have a genuine accident and an existing neck ache for 3 days prior. I wasn’t asking for compensation, just the opportunity to formally report what had happened to prevent future and more serious issues in that area.

In summary, I’ve enjoyed my drink and the customer service, however I cannot rate highly their importance on customer safety and health hazards signing...

Priced highly at £21.00 and based off recommendations, we were expecting good things from Twenty1's Sunday lunch, however; it turned out to be the worst we had all ever had. Our pigs in blankets were practically oinking at us, they were so undercooked. The roast potatoes to be blunt, were rank. They were rock hard, had zero seasoning and just tasted of oil. The cauliflower cheese was bone dry and had no sauce, just a tiny amount of grated cheese on top which was black and burnt. The stuffing portion was tiny, a little bit bigger than a £2.00 coin. Gravy was served in a tiny teapot, which just didn't work as it comes out soooo slowly.

When we brought this all to the attention of the staff (apart from the gravy teapot), we were told our comments would be passed to the kitchen, that was it. No offer of a slight bill adjustment or even a complementary drink. We clearly heard several tables around us also complain. I'm thinking they might have had temp kitchen staff in day, as the food was so poor and looked nothing like pictures posted online.

One of our party emailed Twenty1 once home and unfortunately that email has been ignored, this demonstrates pretty poor customer service. Establishments will have their off days and food quality will sometimes dip, however; it's how management deal with these comments that determine return custom and positive...

Couldn't fault the food -- it was superb! What we disagree with, was how we were made to feel like second-class citizens/ cheapskates based on what we ordered. We came in on a Sunday (29.10.23) around 4:30. Hadn't booked but saw they did a roast until 18:00. All they had was two of the four roasts left, which was understandable, given the time. What we didn't like was that me and my wife ordered the large roast made of all meats to share, as they all come with a veg sharing board. The waitress said "I'll have to check with the chef as it's a table for two and he has a reputation to maintain". We couldn't just order this dish and were made to order the £5 side of extra pigs in blankets, despite the original dish already having them! We couldn't finish our food as we were stuffed. We go to many independent restaurants and have never been dictated to what we can/can't eat. If they didn't want our business, just tell us! We still ordered a couple rounds of pints and were considering dessert until the way we were made to feel. Moral of the story; don't judge a customer at the start! We moved on elsewhere in Torquay.
