Unfortunately not the same anymore.

First time we were greeted we were offered takeaway and eventually we got a table kindly given by the service team. (this was about 1 year ago)

Fast-forward to today and I'm actually in shock at how bad the service and food was. Firstly we arrived early as we wanted to take out tacos which we couldn't order on the website. "We don't allow take out of tacos as they get messy" fair enough. But whats the difference between a burger a quesadilla a bao bun and a taco? Can't you just stack the 2/3/4 tacos against each other in a small box like the quesadilla was? Anyway that sadly should have been a sign of things to come.

As I said we arrived early on a Friday with seemingly 2/3 tables full not a good sign on a Friday at 18:15 and not what I was ust to seeing at salt as usually you are lucky to get a table unfortunately the table we were told to was sticky and the floor wasn't any better it felt like a nightclub. Anyway 2x fries and 2 x quesadillas took 20 minutes fair enough if it's fresh and good and I can forgive that. but oh my.

I thought to start with the tortilla that was encasing the chicken was like cardboard overcooked and not very nice. And seems like they changed the chicken recently too as it was worse than usual so not a good start.

My partner ordered cheesy garlic fries can't go wrong right? Wrong. The sauce was so acidic I had to drink half a bottle of water to get the sourness out which left me feeling disappointed and sad.

Finally my fries, surely it was all a dream and these chipotle "bacon" fries were going to redeem this place. I'm not surprised there isn't a photo on the Website because as soon as I opened them I generally thought I got a mix up. My friend even said "are they dorito fries" sadly I wish I was making that up as for the flavor I won't say too much but if you had put a blindfold on me and told me to guess the flavor I would need more than 5 tries because there was no bacon and I'm not sure about the chipotle but it was slightly underwhelming.

I'd like to say this place was just having an off day and that it is usually always a 5/5 but unfortunately seems as it was empty I'm probably not the only one thinking it has gone downhill.

Hopefully they offer tacos as a takeaway option soon as that's what they are best known for (me) but unfortunately I probably won't be returning.

Just looked on companies house and it does actually look like the management have changed. Shame looks like I will have to find a new spot...

Came in, as a walk up, and told in future to book. I told them there wasn't a booking form or contact info and I was told to use Instagram as a booking form...

We were sat infront of a heater that was very close to the gas canister and to my seat.

The general feel of the restaurant is rough and ready, with some of the paint work being splotchy ans blurred. The tables were dirty when we arrived, little lamps on the table dirty and the floor was very dirty under the tables.

We arrived 20 mins after opening and nothing was set up. During out visit they were setting up and finished by the time we left. We were sat in front of a group of staff having a meeting.

We ordered a mix because we wanted to try a couple of different things all at once, after hearing great things.

Food is OK. There's some different stuff on the menu compared to other venues in Darlington. I got the chick fil a burger (which the menue stated comes with fries and can upgrade for £2 to loaded fries) I was charged separately for both at the end. The salt and pepper fries tasted quite sweet but the burger was nice.

My partner got the quesedillas and the burger fries and enjoyed them both alot.

Overall, it is quite expensive. £42 pounds for 2 mains and 2 fries and 2 drinks (£3 50 for canned fanta)

I would come back but I think there's other places I want to try before returning.

My opinion the food should be cheaper / more included and the drinks should be On draught or cheaper. A little cleaning in the restaurant would...

Made the journey down from North Shields for my partners birthday as a surprise as he lives street food and it was well worth the trip. Food was perfect and we can’t wait to return to sample more of the menu as there was so much choice. Best meal out in a very very long time… Edit as this was posted before our dessert arrived, our waitress was lovely and friendly and went to order our dessert, there was a bit of a wait the same as the mains but no issue with waiting as food was so so good and they were busy. However another woman who I assume was the floor manager came over to let us know (approx 25mins after we ordered dessert and it was yet to arrive) that our table was needed for the next party arriving in 10 minutes. She was very abrupt and honestly don’t know if she knew how to smile she was so rude. Explained we were waiting for our desserts to which her reply was “that’s not ideal I will go and chase them”. She then came back and told a table two down from us that arrived after us and had just finished their food they would need to leave soon to accommodate the new people arriving. All in all our meal was lovely and our waitress was so kind and attentive but the night was let down by the other service team members lack of hospitality. This won’t put us off returning though as everything else was fab. Just hope she isn’t working...

I don't like leaving negative reviews (normally just don't write anything, I prefer to speak directly to the staff/manager)... however, on this occasion, I was so disappointed with the venue and service that I feel I can't not leave a "constructive" review. Food is good. Service is appalling! We ate on a Saturday night, it wasn't busy (empty tables around us all evening so being busy isn't a plausible excuse).. we finished our food, the table cleared, but then the bill was just thrown on our table. No one asked if we'd like anything else, we hadn't even asked for it.. So, by all means, go and enjoy the good, just be warned, don't expect to be waited on with any finesse! Oh and we ordered a bottle of Pino Grigio.. what arrived was a Tesco's finest bottle of... 🫣😲🤨

Salt was a wonderful surprise to come across in Darlington. I can honestly say, from it decor to drinks, it’s food to its furnishings, all of it was exactly what I was looking for. Those who have started up Salt should be proud of their efforts, and for the cool, relaxed, and pleasant bar restaurant they have made. Their efforts have paid off. I went there with some friends on their second night of opening. The staff were incredible friendly, and our food arrived in good time, and was DELICIOUS! Another positive note is that the portions were perfectly filling. On top of their good selection of drinks, all was incredible well priced. I felt I had got more then my money’s worth. If your in Darlington, give it a look. I can not recommend it more highly.

Salt is absolutely marvellous. It's hard to describe the vibe of the menu, but you'd probably say "elevated street food". They have offering from around the globe, my usual favourite being the tacos ofcourse :) Portions can be a little small for the price, but the quality is undeniable, proven in the taste! The building itself is spectacular, with the full aspect front window, and the large mezzanine level, which gave an almost private-dining experience. Drinks/cocktail menu was small but provided exactly what you'd expect and need. Off menu offerings were also catered to. Oh, and there's a swing seat in the ante-room. A perfect venue for something a little more unique, in a town almost plagued with average establishments.
