A Tranquil Oasis in Darlington

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

South Park in Darlington is a hidden gem that truly deserves a five-star rating. This Grade II listed park is a charming haven for a wide range of activities, making it a perfect spot for everyone, including those seeking solitude for meditation.

The park's historical significance adds a unique touch to its ambiance, making it feel like you've stepped back in time while enjoying modern amenities. The lush greenery, well-maintained pathways, and serene atmosphere make it a great place for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing picnic.

What sets South Park apart is its ability to cater to all needs. If you're looking for a peaceful moment to meditate or simply be alone with your thoughts, you'll find secluded spots that offer the solitude you seek. The park's expansive grounds ensure that you can usually find quality time for yourself, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The park also offers various recreational activities, including playgrounds for kids, sports facilities, and open spaces for gatherings or events. It's a fantastic place for families, friends, or individuals to unwind and connect with nature.

This is simply the best Park I have ever visited, I would not have believed that such a space with a wide variety of, walking / running and cycling experiences, wildlife, plants (including fruit that you can freely eat as you go round) could exist in a town environment there is a play ground, where you can actually see the whole area from the picnic tables provided, ( so you can watch your little scallywags at play while enjoying your food), speaking of which, centrally placed is a very good cafe. An aviary which puts the care of the animals first, and yet let's everyone see up close without intrusion. One of the most amazing things I found was, that right amongst all this tranquillity, a skateboard Park is included, done in such away that you don't even hear the usual noises associated with it, well done all involved in making this possible!. Plenty of information is found on very well laid out (and accurate) information boards at the park entrances too. Most amazing of all?, this beautiful space, (with really friendly people using it), is actually in amongst the hustle and bustle of a full grown town. I love this area, the town and it's people (of all ages). I live on the south coast, but if I could, I would move here, I really do look forward each year, to spending , my one week rest time from caring, here, in friendly Darlington.See you all again...

Visited on Saturday 3rd April after other half had his covid jab at the old footie stadium, have not been here for a fair few years, last time being running the race for life. Bit of a mare to park, nothing on Parkside but turned around and persevered and got a spot on the main road (A167) once sorted what a lovely little walk. We went through and round the park following the skerne to where you veer right to go to the duck pond. To the left was an amazing open area, dogs would love it, folk having picnics, people exercising, it was lovely. We kept to the right around the pond, taking us back down the river and ending up at the community garden. From there we went "under the road" through an open gate that led us onto a lovely open green area, will be great in the summer months (our pooch still managed a dip in the water) Walked down to the wear and crossed over the bridge & the walk took us back to Parkside road. Not quite a yomp but a cannie...

Skate park in South Park in Darlington in the pouring rain. The only time I could film in the park without people around. It wasn’t intentional tho the forecast looked like the rain wasn’t quite going to hit Darlington #park #skateboard #rain #urbanhiking

So many fond memories have been made here over my life. I used to visit all the time as a child and I especially loved to see the animals and play in the play area. It's been a place to do fundraising such as a bike ride to raise money for leukaemia charities as well as being the area for the race for life anually. There are many events that also take place such as proms in the park where talented musicians will play some music for all to enjoy as well as family fun days which includes fair rides. This is where the firework display used to be held for bonfire night which is a shame as they are no more. The park has been a place for me and friends to hang out as well as going on a picnic with my boyfriend. This area has always been a huge part of my life and I hope it will always be around!
