The place is nicely appointed and will suit pretentious types. The prices reflect the location and the decor rather than the quality of the food, drink and service. I ORDERED a cheese and ham omelette - What I RECEIVED was not an omelette. I don't doubt that it used all the right ingredients, but it was the worst omelette ever.
The overly long wait, until it eventually arrived, was explained by the "omelette" itself - the chef (tongue-in-cheek) had obviously taken the entire twenty minutes to make sure the "omelette" was thoroughly cooked in a nice HOT pan. I know eggs are wonderful things and very versatile, but even I was amazed - I could have easily re-soled my boots with it. As I wasn't paying for the meal I made no fuss and ate the damn thing out of respect for the payee. I must say that egg-based bin-lid put up quite a fight, but I still have all my own teeth, and with dogged determination I cleared my plate. I'm not sure my stomach will ever forgive me.
If I had been paying for the food myself, I would have returned it untouched, in fact I COULD have just as easily tossed it like a Frisbee - without a doubt it would have made the flight wholly intact, though I would worry that it could have decapitated some pretentious luvvy on the way. - My advice to this place - Learn how to cook an omelette - or fire whomever made the ghastly thing. My advice to customers -...
Read moreI've always liked this venue and have dined there often over the years, however not for a while. On arrival there is a sign stating wait to be allocated a table, so I waited whilst staff buzzed around me. When approached I said table for one and was told sit anywhere, this was presumably to indicate to staff that someone new had arrived? Breakfast menu had the usual and was tempted by the full English, however eggs benedict always appeals so choice was made. I was aware of tables near me arriving later but getting food quicker, however this usually means food coming from different sections in the kitchen just being ready sooner. My dish on arrival was carried hurredley by the waitress because it was too hot handle, and it was. The bacon looked well over and upon cutting through the eggs found no ooze, just solid egg. Having already waited a while but not too long I set upon my breakfast sure that someone would check the table and a conversation could take place. Having finished and still no one approaching I went to pay, again no questions about my visit/enjoyment or otherwise - so this is the only opportunity I have to pass on my comments. There was clear evidence around of customers who are regulars being well and truly looked after - I wonder how long you have to go to be...
Read moreI have been a frequent customer at the Express over the last few years, what has happened to the food ? My daughter and I had lunch there yesterday - the turkey special @ £17 .95. It was appalling, the turkey was dry and tough, didn't receive any stuffing etc. The food was overcooked and cold. Our waitress disappeared half way through our meal ? Roast Potatoes were non existent, just small potatoes with their skins on. No such thing as a Yorkshire Pudding.... No body came to check on us to see how things were ? Individual attention was zero. I also think that £8.00 for a glass of House Wine is a lot to charge. We had no starter or dessert either. To make matters worse, The attitude of the lady manager was bad, she certainly lacked all charm / grace Clerk 2 ? We are only locals but the Imperial Express needs to " UP THEIR GAME " Not even a "Thank you " Incidentally, the vegetables were good, except stone cold. Very expensive for what we received, the...
