Smokey Joe's — Restaurant in England

So we were on a cheap caravan holiday (from Weymouth) and found ourselves at Kents Cavern, and just Googled from there where was a local place to eat; so our encounter with Smoky Joe's was completely off the cuff. Now I could tell you all about how wonderful the décor of this place is with it's American themed artefacts, but I wont. I could also mentioned how friendly and accommodating all the staff were, but other reviews have that covered so I wont bring it up again. I could yammer on and on about how reasonably priced the menu was, but there is really only one thing I feel I NEED to base this review on: something which overshadows everything else. Now I'm going to say this slowly, to try and highlight the impact and sheer gravity of the statement you are about to read. But please be assured I mean what I am about to write 100%, and as a 41 year old 'husky' guy I really do have the experience to make a claim like this. Are you ready? Here goes. SMOKY. JOE'S. DOES. THE. BEST BURGER. I. HAVE. EVER. EVER. TASTED. And there it is, right there. I could try to convey with serious descriptive words just how incredible and life-changing this burger was, but I would simply not do it proper justice, so I shall simply say... WOW! In my four decades on this planet I have never encountered such an incredible piece of meat in a bun. It was just heavenly. I actually ordered a double burger, and as it was now too huge to get my mouth around, I removed one of the burgers from the bun and gave it my full attention on its own... and it blew my mind. Just... whoa, dude. I mean everything else was also great... a lovely atmosphere, decent jukebox music, lovely staff, everything looked so clean and well maintained... but the burger I had was out of this world and takes dominance in this review. Please see photos attached to attempt to demonstrate how juicy, succulent and downright awesome this thing was. It was a proper cathartic experience for me, and alongside my wedding and birth of my child, munching away on the Smoky Joe burger will forever remain one of my fondest memories. (All right, I'm overdoing it a bit now, but you get the point.) So glad I found this place by accident, and we will be coming back every time were are in Torquay from now on. Whilst visiting on holiday, we were looking specifically for a diner like this and visited purely because of the reviews. We were not disappointed and can see why in peak season it gets packed in here. We did book, but there was only a couple of people in there, which I wasn't surprised about as it was 5:00 on a September evening, just outside of peak season. I noticed staff busy cleaning the restaurant-skirting boards and walls, which I always appreciate seeing. Our server was so friendly and helpful when we queried items on the menu. Both had Nachos to start, huge portion. Would have liked some more salsa as the pot was quite small for the large portion. We both had steak, also HUGE portion. My partner had the garlic prawns with his and I was very impressed with how big they were and how beautifully cooked they were. I liked the fact that you could order extras on the side that weren't a full portion, half a portion, for half the price. I love to have a selection of sides but don't want a full size or pay full price. So this was a really nice touch. Steak was perfectly cooked! I think it was a little pricey, but you get what you pay for, we knew it would be expensive as we'd viewed the menu before we booked. But I have to say it was absolutely worth it! Visited the ladies whilst I was there, they were clean and tidy. We've said if we visit again we will definitely eat...

This is my favourite place every year for my birthday we go to Torquay and book smokey joes for our favourite meal. The chef's knows exactly how you want your steak, like I love mine well done no blood showing & they cook it perfect not burnt on the outside & hard inside they do it perfect & it melts in your mouth it's perfect they have never in the past number of years of me going there have they ever let me down they are the best chefs ever . The ladies who served us was also brilliant they even put a birthday banner on the table they put a candle in your desert with the happy birthday song & because we ordered the same desert with exception of I had the cream & the other one was with ice cream & because they couldnt remember who's was who's they put a candle in both so how cute was that not leaving anyone out, they are brilliant there, They are also so polite & so helpful & so kind its so friendly there plus it's so clean & comfortable everything is just the best. Please don't miss out on this place but remember to book because it is always full there. This is a 10 out 10 even more if I could.
